Yeah for W I'm not sure what to think about that. Most people's test that I have seen have 0. So I think it definitely a contaminate that got in the system somehow, I am just not sure what it could be.

Read this & thought of you & your W....Have you done another test since?

“Often cheaper shaft material made of tungsten carbide or aluminum oxide is used. In the former, a binder is necessary for the tungsten to remain bound in the crystalline structure. In the best case that is cobalt. But because cobalt dissolves in seawater, the metal is weakened and tungsten can be released.

This gives me more motivation to check my pumps and magnets!
you just never know until you look at all the metal in your tank..

I had read that. My main pump is an Abyzz A200, the ARID is run by an EcoTech L1 and my topoff pump is an Ehiem. All not cheap Chinese pumps so I'm not sure if any W would be coming in from that. My power heads are MaxSpec Gyre's that are from China but they use ceramic shafts. I also have a Ecotech Vortech MP40 in the frag tank, and a sicce pump on my skimmer. That is all the pumps I have in my system.

So I don't think it is coming from the pumps. I have ordered some ICP tests from Triton and am waiting to receive them, when I get them I plan on testing my water and all the home made solutions I dose to see if there are any impurities that are making there way into the tank from my additives.

But still the tank is looking good and growing like a weed.

My Tunze silence pump impeller split and corroded into the water and the damage and subsequent slow recovery look very much like the info in that article...

I used to have Tunze pumps in my tank for years, maybe that is where it came from.

But for all I know I could have dropped a SS screw from my giesemann fixture in the tank years ago and it is buried somewhere and I'll never find it.

Hopefully its gone in the next test anyway huh, seemed like that triton tank was okay below 150 ...I doubt its just a chinese issue, anyway good to know what suspect that one can be.

I had a magnet in an Avast Marine probe holder rust and my W level went to above 500. I lost virtually all my SPS. It took me four months of weekly 20% water changes to get the W below 100. I'm finally able to keep SPS again.

Thanks for that info. I have two Avast Marine probe holders. I'll check to see if they are rusting, but they are about 6 inches above the water line so I think they are good.

2una, Thanks for sharing the article.

I used to use a Tunze nanostream pump that was attached to a new style cheap magnets manufactured in China as opposed to the old style and strong magnets manufactured in Germany. The wet side of the magnet set (the new ones come with two small pieces) split and rusted. I did not notice it until I removed the pump from my tank for cleaning. This must have affected my reef tank though I did not see any noticeable deterioration of the health of my corals or other invertebrates at the time.
