Jebao WP25 Information

IF there really is a speed controller coming out on the WP-25 and IF our group buy is still waiting on a production run, wouldn't it be cool if the next batch in the gb had the new controller? It doesn't hurt to dream!

I have a 28NC. I currently use an mp10 at just over 50%. How low do you think I would need to dial down the 25.

Note: not going to run together. One would be a backup. The mp10 is 4+ yrs and not sure how long I can expect it to keep going

Pointing this question to Rrasco and Sacohen because I know you both have reef angels.
Do the original cables that were designed to connect the wp40 to the reef angel also work for the wp25? I am assuming yes, since you both are running your wp25s on the reef angel controllers, but just want to confirm.

Steve said earlier:
My Anemones, Toadstool Leather, Frogspawn, and Kenya tree all hated the 25 at full power on the stock controller.
I wound up taking the 25's out of the tank and putting the 40 in controlled with the Reef Angel.

I tried the 25 at the same settings as I had the 40 at and it didn't behave right. When I set the 25 to run at 30% during the night it would run for a bit and then stop. This never happened with the 40.

The 25's run perfectly fine with the stock controller, never stopped or anything, but they were to strong for my 55.

I believe the part in red is implying that it didn't work properly. But weather that was due to cables, coding or running the pump too slow is unclear.

They work with the ReefAngel. I am too having the stopping issue with the WP25 on the ReefAngel. I have not found anything to be consistent to cause it, it's kind of random. I did not observe this behavior with the Jebao controller so I will need more time to try and determine the cause from the ReefAngel. It may just be a simple coding issue, as I re-wrote my programming for the WP25s.

My friend from HK told me Jebao will start including a new controller with speed adjustment next week! Steve, you were right after all with what Jebao told you.

First gen got screwed :( a bit not cool :debi:
Haha unless the rest only ones with out speed control came in thru Air and the rest have it ... Lol probably not :lmao:

Thanks for the update on the reef angel's compatibility with wp25s. Its not looking too promising so far, but It sounds like you still need a little more time to make a final determination. Let us know how it goes. Thanks.

It appears that there is no if. Look at the fish street website. It says wp25 just release a new version from 1C to 1D, a new speed controller.

The website says that back ordered ones are getting the new controller. I ordered few days ago and I hope I get the new controller. I emailed them though, that will suck big time if I don't get it.

I think FS will upgrade your controller free if you do end up getting the old version.

So will the new controller be any different than.using the LED dimmer?

In theory no, but it will allow you to control the speed of the pump with the controller, which keeps the pump operating at 24v and uses the built-in control for speed as opposed to adjusting it's voltage to control the speed.

Why would they start selling these pumps and then immediately add the speed control?

People are clamoring for the WP-25, so I'm sure Jaebo had the wave maker ready but not the new controller. They knew it worked with the old controller so to satiate some of the frenzy they rushed some out.

They may have experimented with lowering the speed like those with controllers and couldn't quite nail down the point where it would fail to start or why. If they just sent out the pumps with a controller that went down to 10% and it didn't actually start consistently they would burn up (to an extent... being in water would probably prevent that). Motors don't really like standing still under power. So maybe they raised it to a point where they never saw it fail to start, like 25% or 30%. Or they figured out it needs more of a kick in the *** to get over the initial step and then can roll down to 10%, so they added a cap or something to give it that kick. Heck maybe they cut down the prop tips a little to reduce the torque needed to turn it, or rewound the pumps themselves to play nicer at lower speeds (but these two would mean new controller + old pump = not perfect).

Lots of reasons to delay a new controller, even for a company that might not do a huge deal of R&D.
