I'll post a response that I sent another member through PM when I received a question regarding this pump:
"A few things that I've noticed after using the pump for 3-4 days now. This may or may not help you make the decision. The pump is louder now after a few days. It's not bad but you can definitely notice it. It has a different, higher winding, pitch sound compared to the Vortech. Also, when the pump is on W1 mode (pulse mode), the propeller hesitates to start up sometimes and makes a clicking noise. After 2-3 attempts, it runs again. It's not bad and this whole incident is normally under 2 seconds but you can see the pump hesitate. Makes me really question the reliability and longetivity of this pump. Can it handle constant on and off in pulsate mode for 2-3 years? I don't know. I've brought up these issues in the equipment forum and people just seem to ignore the fact because they are all so fixated on this "new competitor" against Tunze and Vortech. They think I'm knocking this pump but really I'm not. These are just things that i've seen and notice that I want other users to know what they "may" get themselves into.
Power wise, this thing blows the vortech out the water, literally. lol.
For the price, it's the best bang for the buck. If the W1 mode problem that I stated above is going to be a problem forever, I can live with it because it really doesn't effect the pump's purpose, which is to push water. It still makes waves perfectly fine. If you use the other modes, then you wont notice the issue at all. I'm still partial to Vortechs in my display because I hate wires in the tank but wouldn't hesitate to put this in a frag tank or if I had a really deep tank where I can hide this pump in the top right corner somewhere.. This thing is pretty big. So far, it exceeded my expectations and performs just as well as the Vortechs (maybe even better)."
I've been using the pump for about 12 days now.
I've never owned a Tunze (which I think would be a better comparison to the Jebao instead of the Vortech). I have only seen them in action at local fish stores. From all the great reviews, I'm assuming the Tunze is SUPER SILENT. This Jebao isn't silent. It's noticeably more quiet than the Vortech but the vibrations are still apparent at full power. Now maybe it's because I'm very anal when it comes to noise in my tank. I've set everything up to be as quiet as possible. The three loudest things on my tank are the Vortech, then Jebao, then ATI Powermodule fans. If I turn these three things off, my tank is near silent.
I think all three of these pumps are great options and the buyer needs to choose one most fit for their application.
If you're looking for a pump that takes up minimal space inside the display tank, broader flow, less heat transfer, and don't mind a huge magnet on the side of your tank, go with the Vortechs.
If you're looking for a pump with a more directional flow, quietness (I'm only assuming), proven reliability, and don't mind wires in the tank, then go with the Tunzes.
If you're on a budget, want to have similar wave making features like Tunze and vortech, directional flow, don't mind wires in the tank, can tolerate some slight noise, don't want to spend $400+ on a pump, but willing to purchase a product with questionable reliability and service, then go for the Jebao.
