Jebao WP40, a knockoff, yet getting a lot of attention lately!

Just got mine today and I am in love with my Jebo!!!! :inlove:... played around with it for about 10 minutes and I had an ad up already to sell my mp40's...

Just one wp40 does the work that both of my mp40's did... I have a 180 gallon 6 foot long tank... the mp40's would shoot forward, get to about halfway in the tank, then go down and into the undertow... so i needed one for each side... the wp40 on the other hand goes all the way to the end of the tank then down and into the undertow... I know the flow is not adjustable so it might not be good if you have too small a tank... but this wp40 seems to be just perfect for my 180.... I am happier with the wp40 than I am the mp40's...

the wave it created in wave mode is insane... almost spills over the edges... saw it in action in Art's tank but didn't expect it to still create waves this big in a tank my size...

I ordered two of them but it turns out all I need is one. I'll just keep the extra one for backup in case this one goes out.... thumbs up to Jebo for making a pump better than Vortech's at a small fraction of the price... Wouldn't be surprised if Ecotech had a big price cut on Vortechs soon....

You don't like the pump? What is wrong with it?

There seems to be one major problem. It's not a tunze :celeb1:

It moves water. It fairly well built. It's silent when turned down, but when you turn it up, you can hear it ramp up between lower and higher flow; much like a vortech.

I'm planning on letting it run for a week before deciding what I'll do with it, but one thing is for sure, I need more tunze's

Ummm....You know you have a buyer here Mark:dance:
Just sayin'

Update - my thoughts so far

Update - my thoughts so far

lol, I took it out of the tank. Gavin asked if he could use it for his 29gal tank. I was tempted to put it on his 29 and watch the waves bc he doesn't care about noise but the boss shot that down as well. pretty much a no go for me.

Overall, the pump is good for 100$. It moves a ton of water, has a built in controller, and is pleasing to the eyes. There is a slight humm to the pump. If you've never had tunze's before you wouldn't even know. If you're coming from vortecs, it would def be less noisey. I've had the mp40wes and that was loud. When I say loud, loud as you watch tv and can hear the mp40 go "whroom whroom," those who have vortecs knows exactly what i'm talking about. the $350 tunze 6105 i have doesn't make the waves that this 100$ pump make. I might not have my apex configured incorrectly for the 6105 to make that wave but where it is currently at, i'm ok with.

Again, for $100 you can't go wrong. If i didn't have the tunze's and I had vortecs, this would be a possible upgrade as you could buy 4 of these to 1 vortec mp40. It moves more water and the "else" mode varies the water movement. Practically similar to the mp40.

In my opinion it is the following [I'm not a pro just a hobbyist]:

Quiet Loud
Tunze>Jebao>Vortec

Price per watermovement
Jebao > Tunze > Vortec

That seems to be the overall consensus here, what Max stated.

Everyone will have their specifics as to what is tolerable to them for noise, looks, controllability, etc.

As an Vortech owner myself, I have experienced the noise levels that an MP40 brings to my office tank. Does the noise levels bother me? Probably not as bad as many of he other hobbyists and pros on this forum, as all my equipment is hidden behind walls and fans from my current T5 fixtures and return pumps overtake what the MP40 puts out as far as decibels.

I had some fair flow from the two MP40's in my 120, but as of 3 months ago, had added two Koralias just to add even more random flow, and I was able to get just the right amount of flow for my rockwork, since I was getting so many deadspots, with detritus hanging out in areas that was inaccessable. The lack of good constant flow was hindering my SPS growth. It was maintaining, but going nowhere.

At that time, a decision was made to redo all my rockwork, and it was around that time I had heard about this Jebao WP40. People were going nuts over this "new pump", that I decided, hey, what the heck, why not and let's give it a try?

It has been about almost 3 weeks since the WP40 has been in place. My SPS is starting to really take off, as the amount of growth is quite noticeable in just 2 week's time. I have also paid a bit more attention to my dosing parameters. The Koralias have come out of the tank, the WP40 has not appreciably increased in noise levels compared to when it was first put in, in fact, maybe just a tad less, since it has time to be "broken in", but to be fair, that may be subjective on my part. The flow has been just plain CRAZY in the tank.

I have never used Tunze products to this day, so "I don't know what I don't know", and truth be told, maybe I don't know what I'm missing out, LOL? :eek2:

Maybe in 6-9 months when I transition to an all LED setup, getting rid of my MH's, T5's, and my chiller, will I notice enough of a difference that the Vortechs will bother me and I may end up scrapping that for more WP40's or dive into Tunzes.

What I will say is for the money, the WP40 does one heck of a job moving water the way it does, and that fact that they include a rudimentary controller is not bad at all. When i finally have more time, I may just jump in a bit deeper to tinker with it getting hooked up to the Apex, as my work schedula has been so crazy.

The MP40's are in charge of the flow in the front of the tank and the WP40 is taking care of the rear of the rockwork, and because my tank is not rimless, I am not worried about the flow and "waves" going over the side of the tank. the amount of flow I not have for my 120G is about a bit over 9800 GPH. I am not sure how much turnover I am supposed to have in the display tank, but I am liking the flow so far!

The feedback here has been so great so far on this discussion thread, and I welcome all the comments that have been posted.

What I also think is that, with the introduction of this pump into the market, in time, if this Chinese company can get their act together and tweak the pump just a bit within a year's time to quiet it down a bit more, it will seriously make companies such as Vortech and Tunze rethink their pricing strategy, either either bump their service level even more (which is already awesome), or even go as far as not increasing the prices of new pumps as they enter the market, which just means a plus for us in the hobby!

Happy Reefing! :spin3:

I can confirm that these get quiet after the break in. I just set up my second one on my tank and its much louder than the one I've been running for almost a month. I can barely hear my first wp40. My first one had the same noise level. Wait it out a couple weeks. Maybe the algae tones down the pump? Lol. The new one makes that clicking noise in w1 mode that I was talking about but now the old one stopped making that clicking noise.

Coolio....
Now THAT'S... "toofrigginsweeet"!, LOL

I got two today and "synced" them on one end of my 225. Within a few seconds the waves were coming over the top.

This was going against the returns coming out 6 ft away.

My wife just labeled this pump the "owl pump" as she can here the ramp up and down on the short wave mode. Who Who Who Who

(my wife is also completely deaf in one ear if that says anything)

What I got out of the link is to not buy relabled Jebao pumps as it may not be up to par. Other than that, I've been using mine for several months with no issues. With anything, having a backup pump helps.
