Jebo 520 skimmer thread.

sherm71tank,

Nice find! I just ordered two tonight and it looks like I won't be disappointed. I have a medium stocked 90 gallon SPS reef and it should allow me to heavily stock the tank now.

What a deal! I thought it was a typo. I'd advise anyone to jump on that.

I will post how mine go when I get them...

I plan on experimenting with different pumps and injectors etc.
It shouldn't be too hard to tap for a guest fitting or a drain fitting either. I bought them because they have a perfect basic skimmer body. I think shortening the tube out of the bottom will create more contact time too. Nice that it comes apart like the more expensive models for thorough cleaning.

I was about to spend a lot of money on another skimmer. Now I can go out and buy some frags tomorrow. ;-)

BINGO HAS BEEN CALLED! Thats why I bought it. By the way, my orp is still good: 427 mV . I also considered lowering the inlet riser but I'm not so sure now. Looks like it is running fine as is. I really wish I had a reason to buy a bunch of these things cause it is a SCREAMING DEAL. I've built skimmers for a few years and I'm telling you that it is impossible to make a skimmer like this in the U.S. for even half this price. Thats why I stopped making them. Total price for this skimmer body, parts from Home Depot to make it work and the Sedra 9000 NW ( DIY style ) = at most $150.00 total. Someone chime in with the closest ER/ASM model and price.

You're right though, it is way way too much work to make a skimmer like that. I was looking at acrylic today to build one and decided against it. They are of a good size to work with too. Not too big, not too small. Just right!

The thing that is great for me is that I already have the needed parts and pumps lying around brand new.

I can't wait to play with these!!!!

Hey Cbonito, do you run O3 on your sps tank? Controller? I just stopped using my 03 generator because it was making nitric acid. Interesting thing my orp actually went UP after I stopped using it. I didn't think it was right and cleaned the probe but it is accurate.

Wow that's funny.

I was going to ask what you thought about adding a guest fitting to this skimmer and if you think it would be able to handle the ozone.

I have an ozone generator but have not used it since losing almost half my tank when my son decided to "help out" and dose kalk....man that was that a panic.

It just hasn't been necessary with the light bioload. I have maybe 7 medium stags, 4 medium sized caps and a few digitata with the rest being euphyllia, lobos and other LPS. I have about 5 fish in the system total being a scopas, a coral beauty, a cinnamon clown and a couple damsels left. I lost a lot of stuff, but what I have now is recovering nicely and looking good.

I will consider the ozone once the tank gets stocked heavily in the near future if I even need it, and if not, there will be an O3 for sale!

I wanted to upgrade this skimmer for a while since I currently rely on an aquac and an ecosystem. The system is very stable but I had some slight algae issues when there was more in the tank, as I'm an advocate of frequent feedings.

This should no longer be an issue with a skimmer of this size and even if it was, 2 of them should be total overkill.

I anticipate a cooler water temp with this skimmer also.

My temps range from 78 to 82 degrees and if I could drop the tank temp to around 80 degrees that would be nice.

My tank is happiest at around 79-80 degrees.
Bigger skimmers sometimes have a cooling effect.

Mine is still running but I changed out sumps over the weekend for one about twice the size and changed out about all my water. So there isn't much to skim.

I'm working on a 330+ gal tank, and was wondering if Jebo makes a larger version of this skimmer that I could mod to work on my tank?

What's the total height on this unit? And how much clearance do you need to remove the lid? I just purchased a relatively inexpensive recirculating skimmer - I'll keep people updated at this thread:

Eco Plus 6 inch skimmer

I've always thought that a protein skimmer's design and construction wasn't exactly rocket science, and it looks like some effective inexpensive alternatives are coming to market.

This design screams needlewheel. I think a Sedra 5000 would be ideal. Its size compares to a ASM-G2 that comes with a Sedra 3500. I think everyone want to over power their skimmer a little so the Sedra 5000 should do the trick.

As someone else already mentioned, I think the OR2700 would also be a good pump. With that pump and this Jebo skimmer body, you have a nice big skimmer for a little over $100!

Could you run a Mag7 on this skimmer? Just curious, I have one laying around.
Q.

you could, with a regular venturi, but the idea of this is to run it with a needle wheel....

As far as I know you can't run a needle wheel impeller with a Mag pump.....

I took a few more pics. It has been running about a day now since I upgraded sumps. I also changed about 75 gallons of water out on my 55 gal tank in the process so the water is just about all new but it is skimming something. I am using the Sedra 9000 NW on it.

So far I like it alot and would buy it again without hesitation. Please though remember that this skimmer will require some work for you to get it ready. If you are not diy savvy I don't recommend it.
