Someone was wanting one of these in a larger size? I found this one that is 33" tall!!:eek2: :eek2: :eek2: :eek2: :fun2: !! Who is next?

Ok, maybe I didn't exactly "find it" but it wasn't hard to put together if you have two of them lying around! A heat gun on the joints for a few minutes and they pull apart relatively easy. I'm gonna hit it with the saw in the background in the morning to make it fit under my stand and glue it back together. I will only be able to fit 28" under my stand but I feel it should be sufficient :rollface: :mixed:
 
Now THAT's more like it! At these prices, I can easily justify the sacrificial second skimmer to make one large skimmer.

I wonder if you could find a union joint large enough that you can connect the 2 bodies together. It would make cleaning a breeze for sure.
 
Thats true and I thought about that. Looks like a sponge on a stick will have to work. Gonna have a cup or 5 of coffee and and get started.
 
I measured everything out, and then measured it again. I was only able to get another 6" of reaction tube in place and make it fit. At least I know I have optimized the space!. I was expecting some crazing from the 16 weld-on but it didn't happen.

I'll give it a few hours cure time and get it set up and running and post pics.
 
I am a firm believer in bigger being better as far as skimmers go. I would hate to put a tank size on it but If you use a good pump like the Sedra 9000 or OR3700 I bet it could do 75 gallons safely. I'm no expert though and would love to hear what others think as well.
 
It'll do quite a bit more than that.

I'd say about 120 gallons with the correct bubble size, flow and the riser tube shortened inside. I'm about to put that to the test on wednesday, and like I said earlier, If 1 don't do it two will be overkill.

I am not concerned about my electric bill or heat since it isn't an issue in my system.
 
you can get sedra pumps without there stamp on it for about $25 and the needle wheel impeller for another $40 saving you about $50 on a sedra 9000.

i believe this skimmer comes with one. if it doesn't work to well you can always DIY one. when the search function works again look up DYI venturi.

The WP4 pump is the one I use, the WP5 will work also but seemed to overdrive the impellor, the WP4 seemed to work better.
 
Also, make sure to get the complete kit with the cereamic shaft. The last mod I did the shaft from the wp4 would not fit the nw.
