Jebo 520 skimmer thread.

well IMO the AP1500 pump is twice maybe even 3 times as strong as the MJ1200 I will post pics of it curing some rock, and another in a 100g tank cleaning it out well.

The Jebo 180 IME out preforms Berlins, all seaclones.

If i cant handle the 100g Ill modify it with that AP3500 pump :D

Hmmm.. The AP1500 is rated at 275GPH while the MJ1200 is 295GPH so I don't think that it's a stronger pump per se.

You are correct though that the stock JEBO 180 will out perfrom the Berlin and Sea Clone skimmers. But then that's not really saying much.

Trust me on this. Mod it with a NW and switch out the cheap plastic air valve with a better one and you will see much better performance.

In fact I am using a JEBO 180 modded with the above and it skims better than the Aqua C Remora that a buddy of mine has. Check out my gallery for images of the skimmer and skimmate

Ok I c it u used that brass valve from Home Depot? are u using the same AP1500 pump? I can use that AP 3500 pump?- Need more detail and very interested in how u moded that thin-Sam

I am using the AP1500 that came with the JEBO 180 skimmer. Just cut off the impeller blades on the AP1500 and trim it, take a bio-ball and cut it in half and then glue it onto the AP1500 impeller with super glue. Voila now you have a needle wheel impeller for your AP1500.

I think the AP3500 would be way too strong for that skimmer and will cause it to overflow.

And yes the brass valve is from Home Depot.

D.

I am still setting up the recirculating mod.
Genx2400 is a foam machine! The 1500 might be a better choice but that is yet to be seen.
The Genx2400 pump wont draw air when run in recirc mode! Why?? I have an air pump forcing air in. My guess on why the pump wont draw air is that there is so much foam in the water you cant get a venturi vacume created to suck in the air. When the air is cut off in the skimmer the foam wont disapear!!! It just keeps getting recirculated over and over. With the air pump it goes along nicely.

I think you almost have to have a gate valve to be able to tune this skimmer.
My guess on setting this skimmer up is that you need a air meter and a gate valve. Set the air to a optimum rate and the imput water to the optimum rate. Then use a gate valve to adjust the height of the foam in the skimmer
?? Optmum rates??

Water flow into skimmer is .85 to 1.7 gallons per minute
This gives you a 1 to 2 minute dwell time.

Air rate ??????????Best guess is to copy the Euroreef RC135 and go with 720 liters per hour?
The best rate is probly the max you can put in with your water flow rate and not overflowing the collection cup. This will probly change as the polution levels change.

So it is not able to get clear water? It keeps recirculating the bubbles and water? I think you are right that the pump is to big.

I have the skimmer setup with feed water through a 1/2 inch fitting, so thats not a problem. The foam level does go down when the air is shut off so it isnt a serious problem. Just un expexted when you compare it to most skimmers.

As far as the pump being to big? I think that it is manageable. I have also never used a recirculator so it is probly common to be surpeised by the amount of foam.

I am buying a 1 1/4 inch gate valve and setting it up along with makeing the exit water flow a little better.
I should have it to where it will work well in a week or so, then I will post pictures. I am glad I was able to get four of these, it makes playing with the final design so much easyier. I will end up with one test mule and three perfect ones.

I just called Aquatraders and there going to notify me when they get more in... apparently there's one more shipment due. The two I ordred were never shipped, so I've been refunded for now.

Post when they get them in. How many are they getting?
This is the best deal I have ever seen for a skimmer. It is actually well made with thick plastic. Even the way the collection cup sits on top doesn't bother me. I have had trouble with some other cup designs and this is foolproof. I wouldnt run it out of a sump anyway.

Are you running this 520 on a 55 gal tank? I checked ebay and found them for 69 with pump. They also have several smaller versions, rated at 150 and 75 gal. Do you think the 150 would be adequate for a 55 gal with light bio load?

Aquatraders website says they have them in stock.

This is the modle we're talking about:

Whaledriver; they didn't specify how many are comming in, they just said they expect one more "shipment". I'd also tried to buy one to experiment on but now I kinda like the idea of running two skimmers - cleaning on alternat days etc... maybe I'll try to get three. ;)

I have to say I have a jebo180 hang on skimmer and I love it. My sister has one also and it works so well. I wouldnt trade it for anything.

I just bought my gate vaves online so they should be in next week. This will let me finish my modifications.

Its funny but after the pump, the valves and the plumbing the skimmer itself is one of the cheapest parts to this skimmer setup.

Has anyone tried a wetneck on this skimmer? Since the Aquatraders one doesnt have the tube inside it should be a easy mod. Does anyone know someone who could do this?

I just got my gen x 2400nw today and hooked it up to the skimmer and I was wondering how to hook the venturi up. Ive been trying to test it in the bath tub and all I am getting are a few big bubbles. Any body have picture of how they ran theirs? Thanks
