Jeremy's 250g build - Take II

Jeremy, those chalices are sweet. I have 5 or so but nothing that nice. Getting ready to move them to the 300.

Thanks murfman. I've been steadily collecting over the past year. Now I need to slow down and decide which ones will be permanent.

looks awesome I would love to see some of these chalices in the wild

Thank you Tanya. Me too. Too bad you wouldn't recognize most of them because of the color difference between our tanks and what you actually see when diving.

Well, I don't know what "fate" has in store for me, but my tank and the month of January don't seem to be in agreement. Last January, while on vacation, the primary GFCI circuit supporting the tank setup in the garage tripped, causing a massive die off of the majority of my corals, as the temp dropped to 56 degrees and there was no circulation in the tank overnight. This morning was a vivid reminder of last year. Only thing is, I was trying to cook the corals instead.:(
Last night, everything looked just fine. This morning, I came upstairs and immediately noticed the smell. If you've ever experienced it, you'd know it immediately. The following is what I saw:

Wow, so sorry to see the losses.

Did your heater stick on as you stated you were cooking your corals?

As for the details of what happened..........I know what, just not how. I took my controller offline to send it in for repairs, so my ordinary set of backups were not there, but I have the heater and chiller connected to a Ranco 2 stage temp controller. When I checked it, the temp was up to 90 degrees. Delving further into it, the heat setting was at 220.:eek1: Chiller setting was set as a second heater and not coming on.

Now, only a couple of possibilities seem to be available.
1) My nephew got ahold of the controller and started playing. Not reasonable because of where the controller was located and how long he'd have to have been "playing" with it to get to the settings where they were.
2) A power outage nearly a week ago reset the controller. While the most likely scenario, it doesn't seem to make sense that I would not have seen a change in the tank before this morning. Like I said, everything looked great last night, not so well this morning. Still the most likely, and the corals were likely able to handle the higher than normal temps until this morning.
3) Someone really doesn't like me.

Damn dude, so sorry for your loss. I've definently been there before, and I can smell the smell you reffered to right now...

It appears you still have tissue on many others, so I hope everything bounces back for you... sorry again man.

As far as I can tell at this point, I've lost both frogspawn colonies, fungias, numerous acros, and a few truly breathtaking blastos, not to mention the mated pair of Coral Banded shrimp, fire shrimp, 3 peppermint shrimp, and 3 skunk cleaners. The fish seem OK, but I've not yet found the Lineatus.:( I'll update later when I get a better idea of what else does or doesn't survive.

Jeremy,

Sorry to see those pics! :(

How many heaters do you run? The temps shot up pretty fast.

oh man J! can't see the pics right now (blocked) but i don't look forward to seeing them later either :(.

its always something i tell ya :(

Dang it man. You are not having good luck lately at all! Crap, couldn't have happened to someone less deserving of more crap piling on.

Crappity crap crap!

Sorry Jeremey. If I have anything you lost, I'll hook you up with re-seed frags.

It seems like the reef gods test you annually.

So sorry to hear. I had the same thing happen to me last year and I lost everything fish included. Mine was up over 100 degree's by the time I found it and the smell you mention is horrible!

OMG Jeremy I am so so sorry!!!

It must be one of those days as my boxer got out today and I was chasing him for the last 3 hours!!!! I finally got him when I had him cornered he jumped a fence into someones back yard then I climbed over and got him finally!! Now to come home and read this about your tank!!!

December is the bad month for me Every December I have lost thousands in fish for the last 4 years!!!!

I have given up on fish and fish only systems!!

Jeremy if there is anything I can do to help please LMK, I have lots of acros now so LMK if you need any frags I have tons with your name on them for free to replace the ones lost.

Good Luck and God Bless the Reef!!!
