Jesus's 190G LeeMar Starphire upgrade

Erik - I hear you on the pumps and have been talking with Ed for days/weeks now on not just recirculation but skimmer pumps as well. All we need now is alot of money!

So, the 1073.040 "Tunze Recirculation Pump Silence" is not really silent? What's up with that? How much noise/vibration are we talking about relative to let's say an eheim or sequence pump ~ 1000GPH?

Chris - Thanks for that catch. So, either the OM will have to be raised above the water line or additional valves and a drain to service it.

Scott

OK Chris here is updated version with OM slighly above water line for maintenance purposes.

Its def not silent as advertised. Most of the sound seems to be from moderate cavitation and not motor or vibration. Nonetheless it must be a design flaw as there should not be cavitation on a closed loop.
Eheims are virtually silent and the Dart would be a good silent solution as well. Should be able to find a used dart cheap!

Great job Scott!

Gresh, don't give Jesus TOOO much of an ego boost ;)

Jesus you got a nice tank coming up too bad I never got over to see the other one but will have to drop by and check out your progress. I know Romney wants to come check out all your wrasses :) She's a sucker for em and well, so am I!

I just talked to the local fish store to order the bulk heads and flow accelerators. I was also asked what type of pump they are currently using. I was told that the dart gold is super quite. I will have to investigate and check this out for my self. I hope to get the
plumbing done by the end of this month.

These are the dimensions I WISH I could have gone with... Alas, I was limited to only 48" of length vs. your 60" length. Aside from that the dimensions are the same.

Have to say, despite being a foot shorter I do really like the space in the tank. 30" is definitely the way to go for front to back depth. Really adds dimension to your display.

I'll be tagging along on this one, please keep the updates coming!~

Dave, totally agree on the front to back. The ability to add the depth of field is more a mimic of nature and really adds more visual appeal to the tank. I really don't like the long, skinny tanks.

I used a dart for the return. It ran silent with very min heat transfer. It was great. If you add the accelerator attachment to the return, it will give you more flow, just tee it off and add two acc.

Oh, forgot to mention. The darts has become very very expensive :(. It used to be under 200 bucks...now its well very expensive.

I am looking into the water blaster for a return for my tank, but it is pricey; however, it uses less wattage. The dart can run from 98-175 watts. From a post I read regarding the water blaster, it blew away the guy's ehiem 1262.
