A pig! He is cool. I mainly see him at feeding time and he never seems to stop eating.

FWIW, They are known to nip at corals :(

Mark - yes, I read about that, but chances are low. Art has owned a couple in the past. It's just too much of a looker for me to pass up on. Besides, I have no coral for them to nip right now :p

Yep. totally understand. I picked up a golden blenny today. This little fish is saaweet :D

Nice!!! I can't wait to see it.

Skimmer update:

I had to to my weekly water change today, so I cleaned my skimmer. I had to start over with regards to skimmate.

However, I was told to try another layer of mesh on the pump to draw more air, so I did that. Its was doing 900lph before, now its up to 1100. Which is cool :)

Here's what I got so far.

Very nice Jim. Where is the collection cup drain going? I assume you've got a container somewhere that we can't see? Or do you have the ball valve closed, and use it to drain the cup when needed?

T,

This is for you

Yeah, that would've made more sense in my thread, where the flip flop discussion happened, and would'nt have confused people not participating in both.

InsaneClownFish, check Jeremy's tank build - take II if you care to understand how that post is relevant.

Thanks Jeremy. The drain leads down to an old b-ionic container under the skimmer stand. Right now I have it closed so that I can gauge its performance for the next few days :)

Gotcha. That's what I figured, but since I couldn't see it, figured I'd ask rather than assume.

I know, having a thread here is a lot of work. Let alone when two of your buddies have a thread and then there is Terry's thread. I am just glad that you have a 60 and Sang has not upgraded yet

Sup Davey. No not really. I'm still working at finding its sweet spot.

It still pulling out dark skim. I'm gonna let it stew for the week and see what happens :)

I will say that I'm very happy with it.

I do agree with Mark that I would prefer a union connection from the body to the pump, but its not a deal breaker.
And the skimmer is crafted very well.

I've been looking over the body and its crazy the amount of work that went into this.

The cone is formed and welded (which I'm not sure if its done by hand). The ball valve had to be custom cut down on the union portions. I imagine because the cone requires a relatively low exhaust to function w/out overflowing, the extra 1" or so was need to maintain a low water level in the body. The T that connects to the BV also had to be cut down.

The connections to the body are all pvc welded like the H&S/ER, but the plates that make up the cut are thinner than the BK.

The skimmer feed is a 90 that had to be drilled and tapped with a hose barb. I think the large is different though.

All the parts that make up the base, bubble diffuser and etc are all of hi quality. Very thick machined pvc. The neck is a compression style fitting where the base of the skimmer cup has an o ring. That o ring slips inside of a pvc collar, and tightens right up.

I will see if there is some pvc fittings I can get to plumb the new airstar in.

I'm really digging it though!!! :D You should get one!!! ;)
