Skimmer-freaks-R-Us :p

LOL, too funny!

Thanks for the reply too Jim.

One last thing on the skimmer, how do you guys go about preventing overflow issues on EXT skimmers (to prevent draining water everywhere) ?

Jim it appears your is over your sump, so any overflow would be caught in the sump, preventing any issues there...is that the way to do it?

TIA

Most people run RC skimmers in sump. I chose to run it externally to add more room to the sump area, and I hate pulling equipment out of the sump.

But, flooding can be an issue if you tend to spend time away from your tank. When things go unchecked, things can go wrong.

I monitor my tank and equipment daily. I've run my skimmer externally since 05' and have only had 3 small overflowing issues. To prevent this from happening again, I've added one of these:

It shuts the pump off if it detects water :)

Dude, that sucks. I'm laughing at the moment because I know how you feel! Been awhile, but I've made similar mistakes before.

Jeremy,

That was confusing to figure what you wrote wrote. Had to reread it to see. At first i thought you just quoted Jim.:)

I know, somehow I manage to reply in the middle of the quote. Had to fix that.

Well, its pulling more air than the ER was, and there is definitely little to no turbulence in the body.

I can say I like it much more than my ER. Will it perform much better? Its hard to tell. I can't really measure it, and the fact that they are so similar in specs. The only thing that makes them different is the diffuser, cone and 150 lph worth of air. But I'm very happy with it so far :)

I will say that with the new pump, it should definitely have the edge due to more air in a smaller body.
