Junior's Reef

it's coming along. Another perspective.

Goni3.jpg

Okay, so you've got the Goniopora pretty deep in the tank and getting a good amount of flow, but lower lighting......I actually have a place like that in my tank.....

Might have to give one of the less expensive color morphs a short in order to determine if the Regal will like the taste or not.

Have you seen any growth since you've had it? Are you still feeding heavily and has that affected your tank parameters any?

Nick

the Goniopora is doing well: there's been a slight increase in mass. It gets fed regularly- but not directly (with a pipette). I prefer to simulate a plankton bloom (shotgun feedings). The increase in feedings for the Goni has caused a noticeable increase in Aiptasia and Hydroid growth... but it's also resulted in some of my other corals growing noticeably faster as well.

I have two 1.5" drain lines. My drains are the quietest that I've ever seen in operation on any reef aquarium but I've never seen/heard some of the newer type drain designs ("herbie" etc.) in operation. I'm not quite sure how many GPH are being pushed by my Iwaki100 but it's got to be somewhat significant.

i see...and the T's in back aren't dursos just caps? If they were draining under the tank, do you think they would burp (or however you want to describe the sound of the air lock opening and closing ing the drani line)?

my drains were quieter when completely capped. I don't think a shorter drain line would have changed anything.

now it's time to add 'anemone bolus pix' to this thread

the divide has always been in "Junior's Reef"

The "New Canvas" aquarium didn't have the divide. The aquarium switch happened earlier this year. (See first post in this thread.)

Gary...the pic showing the "detritus-free" bottom made me think of a question. How do those euphy's deal with the "mega-flow?"

there are areas of different flow in my aquarium. The Acropora at the top are in high flow that would be absolutely no good for Euphyllia.

My Euphyllia are in medium flow with an occasional gush that causes them to wave around. I'm actually quite surprised how well my LPS have been doing in this aquarium.

How do you find their growth? Fast, slow?

The difficulty with them and "SPS" is getting a lot of nutrients into the water, and then right back out. I know Junior requires a ton of food, so perhaps it's a moot point.

What is your water change schedule if you don't mind my asking.

I'm just free associating while I consider my new tank's coral plans.

thanks, Tom :)

I try to change 50 gallons a week, Mark. Sometimes it doesn't happen. Protoplaythoa definitely reproduce faster when fed. The zoanthids are reproducing at (what I feel) a decent rate considering I don't give them any special care.
