Junior's Reef

Not sure of exact digestion time.
I noticed the urchin was unusually close to the anemone as I was leaving the house one evening.
The next day I noticed the test getting spit out.
So roughly 24 hours.

New development of late: Junior likes to have his back scratched.
It's crazy.

He will rise to the surface and stick his dorsal fin and posterior out of the water.
At first, I wondered what was going on.
The first time I tried to "pet" him he swam away.
He's warmed up to being touched since then.
Yesterday he allowed one of my friends to stroke him for some time.

It's been a long time since I've been so amazed at something in my reef aquarium!

Another recent development is the splashing. I used to have a hippo tang that did this. Somebody is splashing all over the place. I believe it's to get attention and I'm sure it's the Angelfish.

Dont know how I missed this post...
I've seen that behavior in two fish during the 28 years I've been in the hobby.
Both were larger angels.
One was a massive Regal Angelfish that was & remains the largest one of the species I've ever seen,(14 inches nose to tail), and another Emperor Angel, "Clyde" whom I've talked with you about previously.

ETA-
Just read about losing Junior....
Sorry man. I know that hurt.

Stop feeding it waffles.
You going to cause a mutation in that thing and we'll pay for it with our lives....

Might want to keep a close eye on your kids & the dog when they are near the tank...

Update

I've had a challenging time keeping up with calcium and alkalinity demands for several years now. This baby should help!
Mark already knows how much I love this thing.

Prior to that 624 I was running a MRC dual nano.
The MRC is good but way too small for demands of my aquarium.

For size comparison: my sump (seen to the right in pic) is a 75 gallon aquarium.

Funky colors!!
Yeah.

It's a small Oulophyllia benettae colony.
Hand picked by G out on the left coast.
Probably collected from the east coast of Australia.
Very distinctive in appearance, I've wanted this one ever since seeing a pic of it in Veron's first coral reference book.
This species was named after Isobel Bennett, the author of several books on Australia's marine life.

Not a fad coral.
As many already know, I'm not a fad type.

Very nice, Gary.
Ive been busy but looking forward to getting some free time to stop by. I'll call ya when I do.

Oulophyllia are a favorite of mine. I really like it when they put out thier tentacles. I've kept 2 for 6 or 7 years; one appears to be a crispa or levis;the other looks like a benettae. They are hardy, ime. I really enjoy the look when they put out tentacles usually to feed in the early am .

I remember seeing one in person a few years ago and man it had aggressive stingers but was still an incredible center piece coral. I have to come check out your tank in person one day and see how it looks :D

Here's one of mine:

from about 5 years ago at 2amtntacles out.

I don't remember how long Ive had it ,exactly. I'd say baseball; to softball in 5 years,
