Hey I just purchased for my 1 year old tank ( 30 gall reef 50 lbs of LR ect everythings perfect but i could figure out what to put in their besides my sailfin blennie :) ) a mated pair of true percs and a BTA! I acclimated and ect but the only thing the pair wants is out !?! they just keep swimming to the top and looking at their reflection and ignored their bta! Is this normal and for how long thanks guys!

Percs don't naturally host in BTA's. It's really hit and miss in an aquarium environment whether they will do this.

I've only added clowns to 100g tanks with their natural hosting anemone. In three different cases, they found their anemone in about 15 seconds flat. Some of these tanks have different anemones, and they completely ignore these other anemones.

Tomatoes and Maroons will naturally host in a BTA. Percs like a Ritteri, cripsa, or gigantea.

If interested in all clowns and their hosts I'd recommend:

They may or may not decide to go to the anemone, and there is no time limit apparently. I've seen posts of a year. My percs don't have an anemone, but at night they just float to the surface.

This is normal. Clowns can take awhile to host an anemone. My clown was much like yours. He would stay by the glass with his reflection all day and ignored the anemone. After about 6 weeks he came around and jumped right in. Hang in there!

Percs like a Ritteri, cripsa, or gigantea.

Unfortunately these three anemones are basically the three most difficult to maintain in captivity.

Sorry guys heres a little up date my Fish decided to host the BTA but it moved at night under a rock and now they dot want to host it any more :( . Well i am sure they will when its more visiable. THANKS GUYS FOR YOU RESPONCES!

True, but maybe percs aren't the best choice for beginners although they are the most available. A tomato or maroon may be a better choice, although maroons can be downright aggressive and mean.

I'm having beginners luck with a ritteri. I almost lost it due to insufficient lighting and not feeding it enough, but after adding MH lighting and feeding it weekly, it's currently growing like crazy. I need to move my maroon out of the tank, so I can add a pair of percs.

one thing thats a shame that I cant afford MH and that exsplains why my BTA tips are stringy but i have a 130W system going :(

My BTA is doing the same under MH lighting. It maybe that it took a real beating while I was climbing the newbie learning curve, but I haven't been able to nurse it back to health.

The BTA picked a spot that is in the shadow of the MH lighting. I don't think it likes it much.

Is your BTA collected from the ocean or is it a clone?

LFS special. I have no idea. Although mine has suffered through a lot before having good water parameters, food, light, etc. It's starting to look better after I figured out it likes plankton and pureed mysis shrimp.
