this sounds noobie but, is there any mantis that will not attack cleaner shrimp or a maroon clown? i want to get a mantis for my 22g but i dont kno what to do with these guys..

also, i kno the mantis will each snails and hermits, so how do u keep ur tank clean? think he will eat nassarius snails?

Not really unless you go for a really small species. All stomatopods are predators. By their nature, they kill and eat things.. I would say your best bet would be a small Haptosquilla. They tend not to come out of their cavities much and specialize on small prey.

My G. Viridis ignores the larger snails and the hermits, as well as the mithrax (who is as big as he is). Since I have heard of nobody else having one, however, it's not like you can pop down and get one at a LFS.

My G. Platysoma is really very mellow and non-aggressive (for a mantis, that is). He doesn't even strike at the snails when they crawl right across his cave entrance, though he has eaten a few hermits.

These are just my observations, however. Dr. Roy is the man to listen to on the subject.

heh.. i dont kno what to do. i really want a mantis. i might just set up a smaller tank for it alone.

would a 2g house any mantis? like a n.ween

My N Wenn is in a 1.5 gallon. he is about an inch and a half long, and the tank is plenty big for him to zip around (he swims around quite a lot...).
I put the Wenn in that tank as a temp, but he seems to like his new digs. I'd get a 3 or 6 gallon Eclipse or something for yours if you don't have a small tank sitting around (like I did with the 1.5 hex).

I'm using a 'Deco Nano' filter by red Sea. I payed 12 bucks at the LFS, and it is rated for up to 3 gallon tanks.

I have my mantis in one of those deco nanos and he loves it! He is about an inch long! I am looking to sell them if your interested but they are not cheap!
