Just got a pair of Clarkii...:D

I just got a pair of Clarkii for 14 bucks at my lfs. I guess they only saw one in the bag...haha. I didn't notice until I was out in the parking lot how cheap I got them. But anyways, I am curious to see how my female tomato will act around this pair. The pair consists of one female clarkii and one small juvi. I am most positive it was a female because she was the biggest in the tank and I got the smallest other guy to go along with her. I have a Bluecarpet anemone. I wonder if they will take to it right away?

Thanks

Well guys I released them in the tank. I released the female first and she literally dove right into the anemone. Than when I released the juvi...the female tomato tried swallowing it. I tapped the glass and she spat him out. Well she hasn't bothered them since. They are already loving the carpet. Here are some pics:

Here is my female tomato hosting the hammer being protective:

thanks for the comment. So far no aggression from the female tomato. BTW, my female clarkii is loving my Bluecarpet. But the other juvi clarkii is staying away from it. Its near the anemone but not in it. Will the female clarkii eventually except the juvi?

Hey, that's interesting, having a female tomato and a pair of Clarki's. So basicaly it seems that different clowns will share the same tank if they have their territories staked out, huh? And, yeah, FWIW, I think the juvi just might need some time to start hosting ... is the female clarki chasing it away?

Well the juvi was staying close to the anemone but not to close to it. I don't think they became a true pair yet. But so far there has been no aggression between the Tomato and the "pair." They really love that Bluecarpet.

The tomato won't let any fish near her Hammer Coral but the female clarkii already seems to be protecting her Bluecarpet. Its really interesting to watch.

I wonder how long it will take for the female clarkii to accept the juvi so it can be come a male?

Will my female Clarkii eventually take interest in my juvi clarkii. She seems to be digging around the Bluecarpet and won't leave it. The juvi is keeping its distance. Seems like its ignoring the Bluecarpet and female. Will they eventually pair up?

Ok no one is responding? This is my 4th post in a row without anyone responding. Come on guys. I have questions.

Well this morning I found my juvi clarki sleeping in the Bluecarpet with the female but after the lights turned on the female made sure it didn't come back. Now everytime the juvi comes remotely close to the anemone, she chases it away. Will she ever accept the juvi?

I need to know.

Noone is responding because they know that mixing a pair of Clarki with a Tomato is a boneheaded thing to do in the first place,, but it'll just be the usual 'LA LA LA LA NOT LISTENING LA LA LA LA' from you,, so why bother?

55semireef..I am listening to you. I don't know if they will accept each other. I am new to this but wish you the best of luck!

I am going to try to add a juvi maroon to my bit older maroon this week, which I was told not to do. Maybe it will work?

Good luck with your clowns!

courney, sent you a pm

semi reef... well i do think its an awful thing mixing the tomato and the clarkis...

but Ill answer you....

I took a poll a long time ago about juvis being accepted in the nem. almost 45% said only at night. 50% said all the time 5% said never

mine was aloud in after the juvi started submitting and kissing the females cheekspines (maroons) be patient. but id watch that tomatos she going to do harm eventually....

Yes I am already making plan B for my tomato. I wanted Clarkiis really bad so hopefully I can find a good home for her.

Oh by the way Tourkid, is it possible if you could pull that thread up? I would love to read it.

I would also greatly appreciate it.

If you are serious about the Clark's pairing, get the tomato out of there immediately. It is just another variable getting in the way of pair bonding.

Provide the juvenile clarkii some pvc pipe that only he can fit into. He needs to hide while the dominant clown settles in. It may take a few weeks, but you will likely find them hanging out more frequently over the next few weeks. Don't be surprised if she reminds him who is boss, even after they seem to be buddies. It is natural and sometimes can be rough.

fwiw: Make sure the little guy gets to eat, she may not let him get enough until she is full. Starvation and stress is a major enemy at this stage. (keep up with the skimming and water changes...alot of wasted food at this stage)

This is a pretty good thread:

Not a very smart idea to add the clarki's but boy are they cool and make my carpet look awesome or my old carpet i should say. But best of luck and if you can catch your tomato your know where he will end up, your shop probably. Good luck and the clarki looks great in that carpet. I am going to get skunks for my carpet dominated tank. Once again best of luck.:D

Thanks so much for the posts guys. I really appreciate it. Well Traeller I will answer to you first. Yes they all get well fed. In fact, the juvi is really bold when it comes to feeding time. I also saw my female clarkii feed the carpet first. She took the biggest flake and nudged it into the carpet. It was so cool.

I am going to get rid of the tomato...I will probably hold it in my store and then give it to Bluecarpet. He said he would take it. You can have it for free!!! Haha.

Tourkid thanks anyways.
