Just got my Golden Dwarf EEL!

Got him 3 days ago, he looks healthy and is all over the tank. He seems interested in eating but hasnt yet, ive feeding him silversides, should i try krill or smaller shrimp like mysis? Anyone have any exp. with these guys?

You'll love it!! I've got a pair and they're great. Feed mine silversides. Try small shrimp or squid.

Hikari Jumbo mysis is perfect food for these guys. Silversides is too large.

I agree with Large Angels. I just picked one up four days ago and he wouldnt touch the prawns i bought to feed him, but i tried some jumbo mysis and he ate them right away. After that i cut the prawns in half and he took those too. So i think its a size issue more than the actual items u r feeding. Try cutting the silversides into smaller pieces. Mine ate the day after i put nim in the tank. Mine settled in quickly and kicked my pistol shrimp and goby out of their burrow. Now its his burrow and the goby and shrimp r homeless.

How Reef Safe are they.

about 100%. some people say they will pick off small shrimp or fish, but i know several people that have them and i've never heard of them eating anything. They r small with very small mouths. I have cleaner shrimp,a pistol shrimp, a rosea pseudo, and a tiny pygmy hawk and he pays them no attention. I feed mine large mysis shrimp, thats about the size of food that he'll take, anything larger it won't touch so u could imagine how small something would have to be for him to go after it.

Think one would take out a sexy shrimp? Helfrichi Firefish? Small clown?

I've always wanted one but don't want to loose anything I already have. But every time I see other people get them it just makes me want one more!

Yours looks so awesome. I may just have to bite the bullet and get one...

Is yours at all destructive? I mean, does it knock things over like frags or other corals? And do you have an anemone? I have a rhizo but don't know if it would sting the eel.
Does it seem careful to avoid touching all the corals?
And how big is your tank?

The tank is a 120g. i have rbt anemone , but its at the top of the tank and the eel hangs out at the bottom. It just hangs out, it seems to have found a spot that it likes and it pretty much stays there. I really wouldnt worry about it eating anything in your tank. Just make sure u keep it well fed and dont give it a reason to try.
