How good and useful are these? I got one when I bought a complete setup. I hooked it inline with my gfo, MJ400 to the gfo then out to the UV, sound ok? I dont know how old the bulb is, are these bulbs that need to be replaced every so often or can you use them until they burn up?

I'm quickly running out of plugs now under my tank, hopefully Fire Marshall Bill wont be paying me a visit.

I think they are a waste of electric.Do you got ick in the tank?

only tangs

really even to do anything to ick the ick has to be free floating so its far from a cure..I think a pair aof cleaner shrimp would be best.and cheaper!!
IMO

I hear that,,,,thats why I got rid of my UV, and still no problems(knock on wood)

I have a cleaner shrimp, I could use another breing a 120. The UV was part of a package deal and for only being 9w, what the heck, might as well run it.

I use a Coralife 18w UV on my 180g FOWLR because I can't keep cleaner shrimp in that tank - triggers.
I've had healthy fish in the tank, but wouldn't say that it was entirely because of the UV. Probably because of a combination of good fishkeeping practices.
It does seem to help water clarity. I had taken the UV off recently for bulb changing and cleaning, and didn't get around to putting it back into service for 3-4 weeks. Anyway, when I did a water change, the water removed looked so much worse than previous water changes (with the UV running). It will be interesting to see if the next water change looks better since I started the UV back up.

I have a uv on my 150 and the bulb was 4 years old when I got it 1 1/2 years (came with the tank). I don,t think it is really working at all, no problems with ich. I also have one on my reef tank that won in a faffel don't Know if it is doing any good, got it for free. +1 on the cleaner shrimp, also might try a cleaner wrase or a neon goby. My Neon goby cleanes everbody including puffy. As far as the outlet side of things, Mr. Grizzwald would be proud of my reef tank add-a-plug strip.
