Just Ordered Aquapod - did i make the right decison?

Ordered a 12 gallon Aquapod. Also added on a MJ900 & 50 watt visitherm heater. Now im wondering if i made the right decision, should i have went with JBJ. This will be used mostly for zoos and rics, dont plan on customizing it too much. What are the main differences?

I love my 12 gallon Aquapod, but you may want to check out some of the mods that will help cool it off a bit. GL, Marcye

You did the right thing. JBJs tend to crakc and leak to. You can pretty much grow what you want coral wize as long as you have good water quality. I placed my 12 gallon aquapod under an air vent which helps cool it down. My temperature stays between 80 and 82 degrees. Hope This helps

I was wondering too if the 24 gal Aquapod was as good as the 12 gal. I heard about this:

Which scared me away from JBJs. I'm getting ready to buy both a 12 gal and 24 gal nano and just wanted to make sure Aquapod was the way to go.

Can you post a link to a thread talking about the 12g nanocube cracking or leaking?

It was the 24g which had problems but now are made with thicker glass.

I am happy with my nanocube 12g dx. Everything I have read mentions heat problems in the aquapods due to inadequate hood ventilation.

i have a 24g AP, and i agree that there are heat issues. there should be more than one small fan in the hood. i'm adding 2 larger fans as soon as i find the time.

You made the right decision if you ordered a 70 watt metal halide light for it!
I have a 70 watter over my 10 gallon, and it actually lowered the temps better than when I was using my 96 watt powerquad.
The 14k bulb that came with it appears as a very crisp white color to me, so i'll probably be ordering a 20k bulb sometime in the near future. My tank everything non sps, but i do have 1 sps kept up high. Everything seems to be thriving.
If you didn't get a MH light w/ your tank, after you're all setup and established, i'd say go for it.

Well,

I just completed a thread on having a 12G or 24G Aquapod. After much research here, along with visiting my LFS to see both brands in person, I am so glad that I ordered the 24G Aquapod. The difference in $ was only $40 between the 12G & 24G from an online retailer. I paid $169.99 for the 24G Aquapod. I can not wait until it arrives, which should be soon. I ordered the standard 64 watt type. Nothing fancy.
If I need to get more light, I can always upgrade. I have decided to switch the standard powerhead to a Maxi-Jet 1200 and the add a Hydro Flo detector to it for 360 degrees of constant flow throughout the tank. This can all be done for a mere $33.00 total. Other than that, I'm straight for now.

Both have heat issues. I have a JBJ 12DX. The stock hood kept my temps at 85-88

I bought a modded hood from nanocustoms. My tank runs between 74 and 77 depending on the day.


It is worth it to look into mods that lower your operating temps

The best advice, other than adding a modded fan, that I received here on RC was to place the nano near a vent so that the AC can help with temperature. I know my 175 bowfront was directly under my vent all year around, for almost 3 years and I never had heating issues. I just kept a heater on hand, just in case. I live in the south, so 7 1/2 months out of year, I experience nice mild to hot weather.
