Just ordered my RKE w/net

What is this saving thing you talk about... is that possible with a tank?

I am so jealous... let me know when you got that thing in place so I can take a look!

Lol Michael true, I should call it a reallocation program instead. I just think it's my own stimulus that made it possible to purchase.

I have very high hopes for this unit. I am looking into and researching whether an ORP probe is even worth getting, and trying to find out if there iss a good salinity probe out there.

Ca probes are a waste imho since you cannot run them full time. I'll stick with my test kit.

Hey Andy, I think that you will be happy with a reefkeeper Elite, And with that trade in program If I sell some of my extra stuff I might just try and sell the rk2 and upgrade myself! Just need a old broken down unit to trade.

Bill,

You know you already have a ton of stuff that works with the unit already so maybe just the controller unit is all you need. Alot less expensive than the package for those of us who have nothing.

No I did not know, Will my accessories like the dc8 and temp probe etc work. I know all the probes will how about the rest of the stuff?

Bill,

I jsut got off the phone with Scott from DA, and sadly your DC8will not work on the RKE. the RK2 was built as a closed system, one of ther reasons they went to the RKL to eliminate that and all modules work back and forth ongoing.

So your better off selling your RK2 setup as that will get more than the $100.00 trade in credit.

The temp probe won't work, either, from an RK2 to an RKE.

Congrats, Andy! I may have one soon as well. ;)

As far as the salinity probe goes, one of the reasons they haven't released the SL-2 is because they are working on getting a dependable, inexpensive salinity probe. I know the probes for my Aquatronica are around $130 or $140.

Keep us updated! I know a couple others are looking at getting one in the club.

Also, FWIW, AquaCave.com is the cheapest place to get a full setup ($579 w/Net Module, $469 without) PLUS until the 5th there's a 5% off coupon floating around (that Scott found ;) ) which knocks another $30 or so off of the price. They also have free shipping. Not to shabby!

OH! And one last thing...

Sign up at ReefNook.com (our VP's website) and once you get everything setup, it will actually read and log all of the info for from your RKE's net module. Chuck just got this working over the weekend. ;) He also has it setup for Aquatronica's and AquaControllers. Fun stuff!

Not too shabby at all. I went the route of an $80.00 credit on the net version sunce it is already discounted, but if you do not do the net package and jsut the regualr package, the trade in is $100.00.

All I can say is this damm thing ebtter be worth it. LOL.

 I believe it will be. ;) Plus, the few problems that have showed up have been taken care of relatively quickly reading through their forums. :)

Oh... and let me know what you find out about the ORP. From what I've read from Randy's articles, its really complex and possibly not worth monitoring, but I'm thinking about using it with Ozone later for Vodka dosing. :)

Brandon

I had a conversation about ORP with Scott, and it is up in the air for me. Everything I have read does not relate ORP to monitoring OZONE specifically, although it isone of many factors that contributes to ORP. Basically, ORP does not tell you much, and merely is a secondary indicator to water condtion changes. If it fluctuates, it does not tell you what the fluctuation is, only that something has caused an ionic shift.

The BRS probe is 35 bucks and may be worth trying, but for more money than that I do not want to invest until I see better use or interpretation.

That is more or less what I had gathered. It seems to be a bit of complex thing. My thought on the whole thing is that if I only have to pay an extra $30 for something that *may* be an indicator when things go wrong, why not? :)

Brandon

$30.00 yes, $75?? Nah. Not when it is a real stretch. :-) My kid holds dual degrees in Chemistry and Microbiology. Since he is here this week we have already started discussing it, but at this level (home hobbyist) the equipment is pretty lacking unless we want to spend mondo bucks for a mass spec hehe.
