Just wondering if you guys seen MONSTER PALYS like these

See the monster paly on top compared to regual zoo on the bottom of it.. Eats like a venus flytrap... and neonish green glow when attinics are on.. Some are halfdollar or might even be bigger.. I spot feed each poly a pellet or 2 of sinking krill pellets

I have one growing out of the middle of a zoa rock and it is beautiful. It is a single polyp in with at least 100-150 zoa polyps.

They used to be more green, with brown stripes, but after moving them around.. ( probly didn't like it, stressed a bit and lost color )

yes, not to burst your bubble but they are quite common and labeled as "button polyps" at many LFS

I usually see the button polyps sold locally as pink (more brown) and the do not grow as large as the ones pictured above. I consider the button polyp to be a nuisance as they spread quickly. The ones I see above I do not consider a nuisance button polyp however I do not know the proper name so I will not disagree.

I have the same thing in my tank exact same color it's like purple or brown with a green center. Does anyone have a name for it???

Actually now that i look at mine it's more purple than brown. But has the green center.

I'd call it Protopalythoa psammaphila until someone comes up with a better classification (proto's may be going the way of the dodo in the scientific world as more research is done, based on some past correspondence with the man). The descriptor button polyp has a wide range of zoas that fall under the category. That is what I am used to seeing as a button, though. They vary in size (I've had some from dime diameter to silver dollar diameter-not from the same colony, but colors were similar). Mine with green centers are not as big as those, but the chocolate outer oral disc and skirt combined with the neon green centers is a nice mix.

i have some that are huge, more red tho. And yeah when MH first coems on are very neon green. never feed mine though.

There is a protopalythoa from Florida that under white light looks brown, and under 20k or actinic is bright green, and about quarter size. I have some in my reef tank, and they are real pigs when it comes to eating. I feed them well smushed fish fillet, and mix in water and use a turkey baster. They are like baby birds and close on it and it only takes 10 minutes or so, and they are ready for more. They multiply real fast when you feed them.

I've fragged them about 10-12 times and funny thing is now matter how many times I've fragged them, they always look like the same size..:lol:
