Juvi Blueline Angelfish

Thanks. It wasn't easy in the beginning but I'm sure the 260lbs of live rock in the 180 help out a bit. Wrong intro the established fish would go nuts so had to add multiple fish at the same time to divert some of the aggression. The last juv Goldflake and small Venustus were not attacked when added. I usually put new additions in a container for 3-5 days to acclimate before being release and this is important to ensure no aggression while they were in the container. There's enough going on in the tank to keep them busy and I feed enough to keep them full. The price is a lot of WC and to over skim.

So you put the new fish in a container and float it in the tank for a few days, isn't that stressful for the new fish? Stuck inside a small container while all the current fish in the tank are swimming around it?
How big the container? What kind of container? I assume that you put a bunch of holes on the container so water passes thru, right?

Trying to learn since I'm worried about introducing my pair of Blueline into my DT where a pair of Crosshatch Triggers are waiting!!

Also, do you think it's wise for me to later add a Scribbled Angel with those Blueline pair since they are from the same genus?

My stocking list is as follow, introducing them in this order:
1-pair of 7" Crosshatch triggers
2-pair of 4" Blueline angelfish
3-a 6-7" Harlequin Tusk
4-a 6-8" Scribbled angelfish
5-a 4-5" Yellow tang
If not a Tusk then a Banana wrasse but he will go in last instead.

What do you think?

Thanks for your help.

My containers are meant for smaller fishes (dimension: 8"L X 7" W X 6" H) but I'm sure you can make larger ones for bigger fish. Cost $2 for the container plus some egg crate and plastic ties. Not good looking but functional. As for stress being in a container I can't imagine them having more stress than if they were getting chased by other bigger or faster fishes. The important thing here is that you can see the level of aggression before the fish is release or when to release. I usually put a large piece of LR in the container for them to graze and feel comfortable.

Here's a couple of pics

With bigger fish (larger than 3") I don't use any container as I feel they can handle themself. I'm sure your pair being 4.5 & 3.5" will be fine. I've Xhatchs and never seen them go after any angels or other fishes before and only see one chases the smaller Blue Throat trigs once a while when they get too chase to his territory.

Your stocking order looks good. The tusk will probably get chase by the Scribbled (mine did, possibly from the same water and they still remember each other).

Kevin,
That was a pretty awesome video! Actually I did not get her becasue I was fighting a pretty bad tooth ache. I called Max and asked if he wouldn't mind holding her for me till this Thursday so I am picking her up tomorrow evening. The others are getting along fine and eat very aggressivley. It's amazing how well they eat and am sure happy to have them as an addition.

So how is the Multi Colored angels doing? I see this thread is staying pretty strong because of the availability of the gems.

I have got to get my another tank soon because these will outgrow the tanks I have them in. PLus I am picking up a small Juvi Regal Angel tomorrow from BZ.

I hope all Bluelines keep doing well for everyone and stay healthy!

Ryan--thanks. Ive been very happy with the recent pairing of GF, Lemonpeel hybrid with the Orangepeel and Venustus. No aggression whatsoever with the GF pair. The only angel in the 180 without a partner is the deep water CB and Regal.

Brian--thanks. Sorry to hear about the tooth ache and hope its not a root canal. The Multi pair came in but the smaller one was DOA. Max shipped a nice pair and I really liked the size difference. The larger one (appears to be a male) is good and acclimating in the 120 with the juvie BLs. Was fighting the larger BL for space but been getting chased by the pita deep water CB. RHS was very quick with crediting and I'll place another for a female soon otherwise it'll be very difficult if the male gets settled in.

I was tempted with the juv Regal but decided if I'm going to pair the Regal I should get another Red Sea Regal. That's a nice looking one at BZ.

The yellow band on the little one is now fading and body is getting lighter so better snap more pics while it's still there. :)

The little is beautiful, love the pattern on the larger one, like it even better than the ones I have!!

So, it seems I've managed to get my BLs to get along. The first few times I removed the egg crate divider there was some aggression, but it seems to be over now!

Here are a few videos. Sorry about the poor quality, but you'll be able to see how they interact (or maybe rather don't interact!):

If someone can help me post this videos inline here where it won't open a link, feel free to help me!

Swimfest, what types of corals would you be keeping them with? While mine are still in QT, I would not risk them with LPS, but would definitely take the chance with SPS. That said, there is as always, NO guarantee! It could go well, or be a complete failure.

Thanks, Kevin. This is the first time I've tried to "pair" any fish. Seeing how simple this was, it makes me want to try other fish (Bandits, Interrupta, Basslets, etc). Butttt, at the same time I say to myself maybe I lucked out and should wait a while before trying something new.

Very happy to see they're getting along even in my small QT, I always expected a bit of aggression in a tank so small (~18 gallons), and there is NONE!

The deep water basslets are much easier to pair from my personal experiences. The main thing is to keep the temp down otherwise they don't fare well.

We'll talk in the next few days....these guys have a few weeks left in QT, but as with all deepwater fish, the planning and locating can take quite a while!

Wish I had $1500 laying around for candy basslets, but I could find something else!

So how's everyone's bluelines doing? My smallest is now the biggest and has surpassed the other in size by a wide margin and still has a hint of the yellow band on his head. The other has grown only a little but still looks more like an adult than the other. They eat like crazy, but still only eat meaty frozen foods.

Great to see other's are doing well. Unfortunately something got into the reef system and it took out all 3 juvies and a pair of L. rubres. Only the 2 female Rhomboids, large Pink Margin male and a Coral Beauty make it after weeks of soaking food in garlic and vitamin. Now in the process of rebuilding but haven't seen any juv around.

The 2 large BLs (6"+ & 4.5") in the fowlr are doing very well and the big one always seem hungry. The big one is getting bigger/thicker by the weeks but the smaller one is not able to keep pace and this goes the same for the Meredithi pair.

Mine's been doing great! Eats all foods offered to him.
Mine was the same, til last week. I had a Burgessi w/some Ich coming & going, but everyone else looked fine. The BL caught Ich for a couple days, but never changed his behavior or eating habits, and was simply missing from the DT one day. I'd gladly try one again if they become available in the future.

This is the first Angel I lost post-QT that didn't jump :rolleye1:

Hmmmm, sorry to hear about some of the bad luck people have been having. My pair is still doing very well in QT. Looks like they'll be going into the DT this weekend, they get along very well, but the larger sometimes picks on the smaller around "bedtime." They swim in circles and the larger will nip at the fins on the smaller leading to some ragged fins. Otherwise, and other times of the day they get along great! I've been overly cautious and have had them in QT for a long time. Hopefully moving them to a non-sterile DT will solve some of the bickering.

Hopefully all will go well......
