Nah, you're not going to have enough lift out of a pump that size to run a closed loop. I always find it's a better idea to have those two systems run independantly. If one pump goes out, you've got a better chance for outcome if the other is still running.
The return size doesn't necessarily have to be the same size as the drain plumbing. I use a soft black tubing from Home Depot that I think is 3/4". It just needs to be big enough that it's not impeding the flow or restricting it in any way. You really don't want you return size to be bigger than your drain though. That could cause problems.
