there is only one thing i could think of that might go wrong if you drill the seio's and insert the airline directly into the seio.... that would be that there might be a venturi effect, and the seio would never stop sucking air. even if the air pump is off, there is no mechanism that would keep the seio from sucking air right through the air pump, even if the air pump isnt running. thats what that open ended cylinder is for on weathersons system.
although, the seio's might not suck hard enough for that venturi effect to happen. if i were you i WOULD drill the seio's and insert the airline tubing directly like you have planned. if you turn off the airpump, and the seio's are still blowing air, you'll have to just attach the airline close to the inlet of the seio's by using a plastic clamp, or rubberband. it should be very, very simple, no matter what you do!
