Kdoc's 210g Reef Tank

Kdoc's 210g Reef Tank

oowww is that a blue carpet? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's purple-y blue in person. Courtesy of Normal Aquatics. So happy with it. Look real happy and healthy. Just waiting on my old clowns to host it. They've been hosting my paly colony for yearssss now.

Hoping they don't do what the did to my first carpet anenome YEARS ago (were overly aggressive with it)

Some more pics.

New awesome sohal tang. He is a little beat up I think from the previous owner trying to get him out of the tank but he should be fine. Seem fine with everyone in the tank. Powder blue tang seems to be messing with him ever so often but it's only day 1 and it's actually not too bad at all.

It's been a while since my last update. I ended up having a real bad crash. Not sure exactly from. It may have been from some sand that I added to the tank that wasn't rinsed enough, but there also was a faulty powerhead that I think was giving off stray voltage and harming the fish.

Long story short, every single fish died (all my corals survived and didn't look harmed at all). Sad to see my fish go, as some of them I've had for a while (the female gold stripe maroon clown was about 10 years old :sad2: ) I tried to save them but it was too late. I think they all broke out with something due to the stress.

So, this was back in January/February. I left the tank fallow for a few months, and got back into adding fish. I know I should have/should always quarantine the fish but I just don't have the time to do it, between 2 jobs and a small/mini business of my own.

I revamped my rock work and added a few corals and the following fish:

Yellow Tang
Purple Tang
Chevron Tang
Sohal Tang
Sleeper Goby
Pair of Black Snowflake Clowns
Mystery Wrasse
Lineatus Wrasse
Scott's Fairy Wrasse - Australia

When I first added some of the fish, I had already noticed a bit of an ich outbreak. I quickly took the plunge (against my previous belief) and got myself a 40w Emperor Aquatics UV with proper flow rate through it. Now it may be coincidence but I'm thinking it had a bit to do with the UV, the ich outbreak disappeared (of course still in the tank, but unnoticeable on the fish themselves) and my fish are looking extremely healthy and happy (knock on wood).

I'm very happy with the way things are looking. I really just want to add an awesome little school of some cool looking cardinals and call it a day with fish probably.

I do want to add a big arch/bridge of live rock to connect the two rock islands to give it some more depth (and to add places for corals).

I'm going to snap some photos of the tank and a few some close ups of the fish for you guys to see, when I get home later.

Sorry to hear, and nice tang list!

Thanks, yeah my first and hopefully last crash. I'm trying to make myself realize that it happens to (almost) everyone, so that I don't feel so terrible about it. I get really attached to animals/pets, so I was a big panzy about the fish dying.

Yeah I'm done with the tangs! No more lol. They seem to get along fine, maybe a little nibble here and there, but nothing bad at all.

Love me some cardinals! You could get quite the school going. I'm trying to find my ochrestriped cardinal another friend or two

I know a place that can get these, I'll let you know when they next order them.

I'm thinking those or Apogan Cuanosoma or Apogon aureus

Anyone have any advice on making the arch/bridge of rock. I plan on drilling it and using an acrylic rod. Any idea of size? Anyone have experience drilling decent sized holes into live rock?

How long has the UV been going? Happy to hear that the outbreak disappeared, but I seem to remember reading that the cycle of ich works this way. They have it, then the little buggers go into the sand and get busy, then a week later they come back iwth double the strength.

Yeah, like I said, I'm 100% sure it's still in the tank. AT first they were all pretty bad, scratching on the sand and rocks. Installed it, then within 2-3 days they were all much better; no more scratching or visible parasites I could see. Ever since, I've maybe see one or two parasites TOPS on each fish, but for the most part they are all extremely happy. Happy I took the plunge and bought the UV. It's been about.... hmmm. 4-5 months since I put the tangs in; and then installed the UV maybe 2 weeks after that.

That's great to hear. I just recently moved my fish to a hyposalinity tank and am going to let the DT be fallow for 8 weeks. But if I start noticing ich in the main tank again when they go back, I may try the UV strategy.
