Kent PhytoPlex ... DT's Phyto ... or Homegrown FAF ... ?

What's the best typo of Phyto to feed the little guys? I understand that they need to be manually fed at least every other day until they're about 3" in length. I know DT's Phyto is good stuff, but how long does it really last (it's expensive compared to the Kent PhtyoPlex).

I've heard that the Kent PhytoPlex is a Snake Oil additive though -- everything is dead, so it doesn't help the Clam.

I've seen a few "How To's" for growing your own Phyto from Florida Aqua Farms, but the DT product seems to have more types of Phyto.

Suggestions and Comments welcome. I want to pick up a few small Maxima Clams (3-4 of them) and a Deresa and/or a Giga for a new 210g setup that will just be SPS and Clams.

Hey jdj I have a baby maxima for 3 months and I have been using the kent pytho so far the clam seems to be getting bigger and good mantle extention. I have pics in my gallery of the progress of this maxima. DTs is supposed to be better.

Thanks! Do you feed with a bell method or just does in the tank? Either way, how much would you say you use?

I put a cap (the bottle cap, I have the 8 oz) full every 3 or 4 days, some times I turn off the pumps and just create like a small cloud around the clam, and wait a few minutes and turn on the pums.

The word is go live....DTs is ok if you can get it freash or find it , the shipping is what kills you when you have to order it on line...Soon ill be brewing my own green water...thats garanteed to be freash and alive...and wont have to depend on a lfs ordering or not orderng or stocking the product for me...

Scuba,

Good tip ... I actually have all the stuff from FAF already, just need to mount the lights and the like ... it's just way down on the project list at the moment. :(

your further along the line than I am, I keep puting off ordering the kit, think ill give roterfers a shot as well....Im hopeing to get my maroons to breed anyway....

Well, dunno if I'm further along ... I've had everything I need for about 14 months now ... I probably need to re-order some of it (does it go bad?) ... how's that for procrastination? ;)

It's amazing how many little things add up and become part of the 'Monster' To-Do List. :D

JDG I am thinking about cutting the top part of a water bottle and then cover that over the clam and the use a turkey baster to squirt the phyto to through the top to feed the clam, that way I don't have to remove the clam or turn off any pumps ... will let you know if it works

This is the method I use to feed the flower pots ... figured it would be successful with Clams too so would appreciate any feedback after you've tried it. FWIW, I used 2L and 3L bottles :)
