Kessil A350

I also have the 350 on my 54 corner bowfront. Initially everything looked great and open. I have just not seen the growth I expected. My LFS guy says he hears nothing but bad things from his regs about all the LEDS. He says he won't carry them because they are great initially but then things go stagnant in the tank with little growth. I guess I will see. I picked up some sps frags and will see how they do .. I have mostly LPS now.

kara 13- do you have pics of your tank with the kessil lights on it. Hopefully a pic with one light on and another with two. Also what are the dimensions of your tank? I know you said 36", just curious as to what you have in it as well. Thanks in advance.

The dimensions are 36x12x20. I have pics somewhere. I'll post some this weekend.

Here's my Kessil 350 Narrow over my 25 Solana, it's the perfect fit and the perfect light.

Not the most updated picture, but you can see some corals and the coloration looks great. I had the 150 since it first came out and have nothing but great things to say about it. Should be a no brainer that the 350 is just as good if not better.

I have been thinking about replacing my chinese LEDs with Kessil A350 on my 34 Solana. Has anyone noticed a loss of color using these, specifically in regards to acans. All my acan's under LEDs have turned orange after switching out T5 4 months ago. Love the pop with LEDs but not sure if it is my chinese LED light.

I don't have a ton of acans but I've got 4 frags and all of them have maintained good color under my A350 (purple, green, pink, red etc.). My next build is going to be a Solana Superbrite and I'll be keeping my A350 for it for sure. I'm really happy with it.

Any one use these on a 180 gal that is 72 wide that has the two support beams accross the top. Just wondering how many you used and if there was a shadow issue

I have a 125gallon that is 72 inches long with a center brace would 2 a350w or a350s be sufficient i plan to supplement with a little t5 for shadowing.

I wouldn't use less than three on a six foot tank. Aesthetically and for intensity reasons two won't be enough. Even with three you wil have more shadowing than MH or T5. Whether its too much for you is hard for me to answer but there will be distinct shadows.

That's a good question and I ignored it for a reason. Lol. Depending on your rockwork you may be able to stagger them with adequate coverage especially if you have lower rockwork on the side with 1 light. It would be less intense but the shadowing is amplified by taller formations. There really is no ideal solution. You could use 4 but obviously that's pricey venture. Since your tank is only 20" deep you may be able to use 3 of the wides close to the water with one just beside the brace. If it's 5-6" above the waterline you shouldn't have a shadow from the brace itself. If your using the gooseneck you could also tilt it to even out the coverage. Other than T5 it's going to be difficult to deal with that brace with most lighting options.

Thanks for the input. I was planing on the actinic a150s along with mh but i could nOt figure out a way to make it work due to the two braces on top of tank. So i think i will go with 3 a350s and add other light later if needed. Im not sure how i feel about shadows but i do have some very old mh vho combo that needs to go

Well I just read in another forum that drouner js replacing his ai sols with ghl mitras. So my guess is he did not like the sols. But it seems he did not buy a mitras to replace the a350w. I could be wrong but that should tell you.

yeah i am running 2 250 mh and 2 39w t5s now. maybe 2 a350 kinda even in the midle and 2 a150s on tbe outside at some point.

Dazed1 or anyone running just Kessils. What is your light cycle like with these? I have a rimless 57G and I am curious if I need to supplement some actinic type lighting for dawn/dusk as well as moon lights.

I like A350W for its simplicity, but as it is so neat, you lose programmability, you lose the potential to stock different color LED bulbs just like many modern LED fixtures do, it is the trade-off

Yea i cant wait. My lighting is so old. And im in need of new bulbs but dont want to spend the money. To replace t12s that are out of date anyway. I see. Metal halids ina new hamilton fixture in the same bulb as mine and they put off way more light. But i really wana give leds a try.
