Kessil A350

I just put 4 A350 kesslis on my 300 reef and could not be happier.. Love metal halides but would not have come back to the reef hobby if not for leds

I'm curious as to why you came back to the hobby because of LED lights. What was so frustrating with MH lights?.... Could you elaborate on that?

Thanks.

I too am a returning hobbiest and after seeing these i got sold on the idea. I went smaller this time around..Nuvo30 with a kessil A350w above and so far so good.

Anyone have Carpets or BTA's under the A350W? I am going to get 2 lights for a 4x2 shallow tank thats 18-20" max deep, and want one of these species in there. Im sure the BTA would be fine but what about the most light demanding Carpets?

What's everyone's opinion on two 350W on a 60x18x24? I will hood them so I'm not worried about light spillage.

Tank will primarily be LPS some softies and some SPS at the top and maybe a clam. Clam and high light SPS are not big on my list. I'm thinking stuff like monti's that generally don't require massive lights.

I'm more concerned with the effect the lights will have on LPS. Also I am not looking for a perfectly evenly lit tank. I currently have a 4 foot T5 fixture over the tank but one of the ballasts has died so I need to replace it soon.

My tank is currently not very full so I could always go with 2 and add a 150 or even a 350 later if need be. The other option is throwing my busted tek fixture away and getting an ATI.

Two 350w will cover nicely. The standard covers 24"x24" 10" off the water. 30" ought to be no trouble for the 350w. Oh and here is my 72 gallon lit with two a350

Something to note...

I picked up a Sunlight Supply Maristar 48in fixture x2 250w MH's (12k) + x2 T5 HO. I got it because it was crazy cheap and I wanted to see what my corals looked like under the light. long story short, the Maristar fixture is back on Craigslist for sale.

Negative effects of the Maristar fixture and why I chose to keep my Kessils
- Washed out 95% of my corals.
- The spill over light was unbearable. It lit up my entire house!!!
- Couldn't stomach buying a $500 chiller and increased electrical bill
- I don't have the room for the chiller and large duel ballast.
- Didn't want to deal with the chiller/light heating up my house (I have a swamp cooler and where I live it reaches over 100 degrees during the summer)
- Wasn't diggin the look of the fixture. Big (ugly) difference coming from the clean look of the Kessils

I didn't have the fixture on for long so I can't say much about growth but for me, the negatives above far outweigh a slight growth difference.

Kessils all the way!

A350 gooseneck?

A350 gooseneck?

What is the maximum height off the water using a gooseneck? Factoring the bending and length and the lamp body.

hi its good 2 x A350w for my 40x24x24? sps mainly? ora 2 A350 and 1 A350W at center?

Two a350 with standard lens will cover fine if the lenses are 10" of the water. If you require a closer mounting get the wide angle. The standard lens has more par available for sps and tridacna clams on the sand

with gooseneck i can Put them at 10"?

With 24" tank I don't know if you can get them centered ad have 10". Mine are hung from the ceiling. I have a friend down the road that has goosenecks. I will check with him and get back with you.
