Kessil Club

If anyone's interested in seeing how I installed a pair of Kessil A160 WE Tuna Blues into a Geissman Spectra fixture, check out page 3 of my build thread here.

You've acknowledged that you dont have enough light and concluded that the Kessil isnt capable of growing what you have? I have two over a standard 75g and I have no issues (zoa, anemone, acros, montis, etc.).

Reread and take in what i said.

"the kessil is set 9" off of the top. The lights come on at 10am and off at 9pm this gives me my max on viewing the tank. For Color it starts at 5 then peaks at 25 then back down to 0. My Intensity starts at 10 peaks out for 4 to 5 hours @100% and back down to off at 9pm. Everything was started on the kessil controller set on acclimation. I've been playing with this for months now because my zoanthids have stretch so far looking for light I even put a small colony on the very top of the rocks 4" down from the light and they recesseded a little. My anemone and maxima clam love the light they are both just over 12" from it. ON THE SAND RIGHT UNDER THE LIGHT I have different types of zoas, mushrooms, acans, small toad stool kryptonite candy canes and Liams polyps my main reason why i came back to the hobby"

Zoanthids don't even need much light. The more likely scenario is 100% intensity was way too much light.

Have you tried feeding them, maybe they are starved. I can not possibly believe if all else is well your zoas are not getting enough light. Something else is happening, pest or bacteria, maybe getting too much light. Extended polyps do not necessarily mean they are reaching for light. What Kessil are you using? Spacing?

I don't think, so I put up a ATI t5 6 bulb fixture (ONLY two out of six bulb on) with my Kessil the zoanthids have receded a little. When I turn off the Kessil and turn on all 6 bulbs t5's on the zoanthids are flat like a mat and do not stretch out to the lights. Also when I do this my nem gets fat and happy and my xenia starts to pulsate again.

I feed once a day for corals and fish. No pests that I can see and all my corals are dipped before hand. A brand new Kessil a360w, they have plenty of space because I still have a lot of room in the tank so they are not close the each other for light see my respond to the one above this.

I want to make sure that everyone understand that I'm not knocking Kessil I actually love the way my corals pop. I just think that there could be something wrong with the one that I have. I can't post pics. now there all my phone and its charging now I drained the battery and Ill be going out for knee surgery in a few hours. So ill get back to this maybe tomorrow but thanks guy for trying to help me out with this.

That's actually really cool. I bet it added some nice shimmer and color.

Thanks. It did add some shimmer to the Radium MH and it added a lot of color. I used to run Radions and I will say that I miss the complete control over spectrum I had with them. These Tuna Blues are a bit limited, but give me the florescence pop I was lacking with MH and T5.

Try 50% intensity.

I'm just saying that 99 times out of 100 when folks have problems the LED/lighting seems to make an easy scapegoat and other factors are not considered. Before jumping to conclusions you need to be absolute sure that there are not pest, parameters are in line and stable, temperature is stable (you mentioned a heater problem?), pH can be a problem is very low, stray voltage, pollutants, and list goes on. As you can see there are endless reasons a coral may not be happy but everyone's first issue is LED light.

You light is probably the most consistent thing about your tank, LEDs are precisely controlled and any error is that of the user(usually to much intensity to quickly).

What is not adding up for me is the part where he says the clam n anemone are loving the light sitting 12" from it (I'm guess 12" from the top of the water) but zoas sitting 4" are stretching for light.

That's why I want to see some tank pictures.

I see the new Kessil A80! That looks awesome, and would be a reasonable replacement for my recently popped fluorescent in my 12g Nano. I could replace the entire hood with one. Does anyone have any idea when it will be released? Most places I read says mid October, maybe November. So hopefully real soon!

I'm recovering from surgery but I did take some pictures for you. As you can see the Kessil has been removed so that the ATI can run for a few weeks without heating up my Kessil.
