Kessil Club

I owned Kessil lights when the company first started up, but it was for fresh water plants.

A couple years later, getting back into the hobby, but this time salt water, there are light controllers. Are these really necessary to run these lights now?

I've had them all the way up on intensity and color for a couple of hours for a couple of days, it was very bright and started to grow algae all over the place. I think the one a360w was brighter than my t5's but not across the whole tank.
When I first started the tank, it was with my kessil controller set on acclimation mode slowly ramped up from there. At first the corals were fine, after a while they would start to stretch and would look for more lighting. So I slowly ramped up the lights trying to keep the zoanthids from stretching up for more lighting. For months I would slowly up the lights, thats when I finally reached my settings at 100% intensity 25% color. Some of the zoanthids, mushrooms, nems, and maxima had positive reaction to this setting other corals didn't.
When I added in the t5's on I got another positive reaction from the rest of my zoanthids started to open. My pompoms weren't withdrawn anymore but where more open thick and finally pulsating.
A lot of people say that my settings on my Kessil was way to much but I don't think so I know what Ive seen in my tank with those HIGH settings. This is why iv'e asked the question "could there be something wrong with MY Kessil lighting".

Nems and clams need A LOT more light than zoas. If your nems and clam are happy, I wouldn't worry about the zoas. If anything, at 100%, I would worry they will melt! Set the light up and let everything adapt to your light. Find a schedule you like and leave it alone for a month or so. You can slowly adjust up or down from there.

I have nems and zoas in a IM16 and I'm only running an A160. I don't go above 40%. Nem is on the sand floor.

If you are worried, email Kessil. If you are not the orginal owner, there may be a charge for any repairs that they may have to do.

NO ONE is really listening to what I am saying. At 100% INTENSITY my corals (zoanthids) where still reaching for more light. That all stopped when I added t5's on the tank, since the t5's the have all receded back to normal condition with my a360w still at 100% INTENSITY.

I was emailing Kessil, why email because "that's the fastest way we respond", that's big joke. I'm am the original owner I hope, the box was never opened when I bought it.

The controller makes it a whole lot easier it your buying the a360's, but no you don't need them.

Everyone has heard it but it goes against ALL our own experiences. Unless the tank is very deep (30" or more), A360s at 100% is way more than is required for zoas sitting on the floor.

What we are saying is you did not let the coral have time to adjust to the led before introducing T5s. If the zoas came from a T5 tank then they will most comfortable with that type of light n relax.

+1 it takes weeks for coral to reflect changes..

Okay how about months?

Depends. Did you change settings every few days trying to get your zoas to settle down? Or did you set it up and leave it for weeks? If you are constantly fiddling then no.

But thats what I'm saying maybe there's something wrong with mine. Everyone else has good experience with theres. I don't think every light that Kessil puts out is going to be perfect. That's why we have recalls.

No not a few days few weeks to a month at a time, before reprogramming the settings.

then your easiest bet is borrow a PAR meter from a local reef club. Test the Kessil.

I measured A360E at 8 inches above water level. 16" deep tank. At 100%, I get about 75-100 par on sand bed around the light.

For Color it starts at 5 then peaks at 25 then back down to 0

I also keep the color around 45.. have you tried bumping that up?

Yes we went back and forth it was like this emoji :deadhorse1:she just didn't understand, it was like she wasn't reading what I was telling her. It felt like she was reading from a piece of paper on what to say to customers. But for now I need to fill out a form give them my credit card # so that they can send me a new a360w, I then return my light within 30 days of receiving the new light if not my credit card gets charged.

Hay Vince a lot of people love these llights as do I, I've just had a little issue with mine but I'm in the middle of straightening things out now.

I am in the market for a decently priced a150 in either sky blue or ocean blue if anyone has one or comes across one for sale.

Anyone with the new A80's, how the shimmer compared to the A160? I want to add a couple of the A80 to my ATI sunpower just for the shimmer effect.

I was thinking of doing the same thing. I just purchased a a150w and had plans of adding another but would really like the control ability of the 160 or maybe a80.

Anyone know if they can be turned down enough to act as moonlights?
