Kessil Club

I would say only downfall is they are way to bright for moonlights other than that not really a big deal. I used the Apex moonlights and for the price they are a bit if a rip it was only like 120$ for six of them

We just bought a360we WOW what a light. I'm putting on sunscreen now. The best part for me is the easy nub controls. Set it n forget it. Our tank is pretty empty at the moment but this light will be strong enough to handle any coral. Glad we bought the 360 vs the 160.

I just went from 8 of the 360WE's to ten of them over my 4'x8' tank. The eight 360WE's gave me plenty of light with great spread. My corals have been doing insanely too. About 4 months ago, I added some SPS frags to the back wall of my penisnsula as well as elsewhere in the tank. Those frags took off and having been growing over an inch a month. The goal of adding two additional lights to to spread the lights apart a bit more so as to eliminate a bit of shading behind the corals on each end of the tank.

The end result from the additional two worked out really well. The two additional lights allowed me to move the end pairs out to the ends of the tank while also increasing the light density as they are all a bit closer together now. Best of all is that this eliminated any shaded areas spots on the ends of the tank that weren't getting as good of light coverage. The ends of the tank are now lit up like a ball park just like the rest of the tank!

I don't use any supplemental lighting and over the last year since adding the 360's, the growth of my SPS, LPS and soft corals has been quite impressive.

Here's a video I shot earlier today showing the upgrade & light placement on my light rack.

Quick question......

I've been a long time Radium MH user and just recently tried (1) a360we in lieu of one of my MH pendents.

Obviously my first observation is that the 360we lacked the intensity of the 250w Radium. I can deal with that because I do not have an SPS dominant tank anyone. But what really bothers me, and is the point of my question, is the "shimmer".

Does the shimmer of a Kessil fixture bother others or do you get used to it? Other than that it seems like a get LED fixture. I will need 4-5 360we's to cover the tank, which is a bummer from a cost standpoint. But that seems like the only other drawback is cost of the upgrade. I could possible go with an A700, but would still have to supplement with 360we's because I have an oddball size 5' tank in length.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I am going to run 3 a360we on my 6' tank and latter I am going to fill in and run at angles several A160 WE to help with shading..

Sound good?

I wonder if I can run the 160 and 360 on the same channel?

I love the shimmer. To me it's the most natural looking light out there. That and the AP700. As far as intensity difference between the 360's and the Radion's, don't let these lights deceive you. A fair comparison would be two 360's to one Radion and they put out about the same amount of light. In fact, I'd probably give the edge to the Kessils in terms of output. It really depends on the color percentage though. You also have to consider the fact that the Kessils are very strong in the bluer spectrum that doesn't register well to the eye or a PAR meter. Like I said, they are very deceiving in terms of their power..

Thank you for your reply.

I guess I would have to get used to the shimmer of the Kessil. One of the reasons why I think the single Kessil I have is creating so much shimmer is the fact I have no coral in my tank right now and it's bouncing off the rock and sand pretty much.

And I am comparing the Kessil to the "MH" Radium, not Radions. I have two MH 250w Radiums on each side of the Kessil 360we, which is in the middle.

The shimmer can be controlled somewhat by how much surface agitation you have.

I agree. The shimmer is a function of how much surface water movement there is. I find it strange when I read Kessil claim credit for creating shimmer. Does it shimmer if you shine Kessil on a tank of standing water?

We just bought a360we for a 125g tank. It would be cheaper to add to 160s as Shred mentioned will the 360 and 160 work together?

Not what I said.. I have three a360we now and I am going to add several a160's in addition to my a360's to help with shading.

I also have a 125 gallon.. I am thinking of running 5 or 6 lights.

Okay Kessil Club

Okay Kessil Club

This my new 48x20x20 that I'm having a hard time choosing the lighting. I am a Kessil also, My plans is a mixed reef tank. Choices

1) AP700 only problem is I'd need more then one or have to add T5's
2) 2x 360's but would still have to add more light (4x 48" T5's)
3) 4x 160we's would have to divide tank in 4's, each light would have to cover a 24x15" area.
OR
I can split the 4 160's and add 2x 48" T5's down the middle.

Help me with this please:facepalm::facepalm:
