Kessil Club

When I was running just the 360s here was my schedule:
12 HR cycle
8:55 10/80
10:00 15/85
13:00 15/90
15:00 20/95
18:00 10/85
21:00 0/0

Now that I'm running the AP plus the 360s for shadow control, I'm still playing around with settings, but all the growth pics were from just having the 360s under the schedule above.

So stayed close to max blue ? I need to break out my senye and check my pars.

I have a maxspect razor 16K 60W in between my 360's for shadow control.

So a possible 240W of Led over a 89G tank should be enough , just don't want to cook anything.

Now I have two 360we on 100% intensity and 100% color for 11 hours!! The corals seem alright. :)

I have recently added one more 360 we which is on 100% intensity and 40% color 12 hours.

I have a 65 g tank. It has taken half a year to reach these levels.

Backs up my belief that wides just pour out too much light out of the tank.

Only issue with narrows is the hot spot right under neath.

I have very little light spill.* It's all about how high you hang them. With the we model there is less shadowing which is good with these point sources.

*Edit Actually I have some when the pendants are at the tanks edges for a while. Two of the lights are on a light mover.

Has anyone updated their firmware from 1.2 to 1.4?

I've been told the update was just for the user interface ... is it really worth it?

I mean if it doesn't break, don't fix(update) it right?

For what? The spectral controller? Mine came with 1.04.

Looking to light an SPS dominant tank with possibly JUST Kessil 360 or the AP700.

How many 360's would I need?

Tank is 36x19x20 with an aquascape of only 24"

Given the par reading wouldn't for a lps softie tank a ap700 be a better solution?

I havent tried an AP700 first hand yet, but that is also an option.

I can tell you that I have always had fantastic results with LPS using 350/360w/360we Kessils . LPS love the Kessil lighting from my experience.
For me, SPS under Kessil is still tricky territory . I have always had much better results with LPS vs SPS using Kessil . From my experience Montipora SPS seems to handle the Kessil , much better than the "sticks". Just my experience.

I would think for LPS and Softies, either 360's or an AP700 will work great.
I like the Apex controllabilty with the 360's . For now, the Apex will not control the Ap700 . I also think the looks of the 360's are a lot sleeker than the AP700 . Gives more room to gain access to the tank with just small 360's hanging there .

Kessil 360 grow and color acros if you have lots of 360's. I've seen it in my tank and others in forums. A long acklimatisation is required though. I agree that LPS ands some sps respond well to less amount of Kessils. My Euphýllia, Monti and Hysterix have shown great growth. The Seriatopora Hysterix is mostly brown however- I'm working on it.

Would keeping the kessil 360 at 5% intensity & color resemble actinic? Im just wanting to extend my reef light time just so I can enjoy it more, without it being to much on the tank itself with a higher intensity etc.

It probably won't run at 5% intensity. The 360 lights get a little sketchy below 9-10%

I just ordered an aquatic life 2x48" w fixture and am switching out the bulbs with a coral plus and a blue plus to supplement my pair of a350w's. From all the reading i've been doing this seems like the most commonly used t5's to supplement kessils.

How did the t5 supplement go?
Was a pair enough?

It was thinking of going with just a 36 inch fixture.
Had tek t5 5 bulb 48" initial and it was a pain to handle that. Are Ati easier?
Want two bulb aquatic life unit bu worried about quality?

Thoughts?
