I have a 50 gal. I am shutting down, getting a 120 gal.Of recent months my soft corals have not opened, and a strange red algae has developed. My friend I am buying the 120 from thinks I may have a bacteria.I would love to be able to kill off the bad and keep all the corals alive and put into the 120.Rather than start from nothing killing the live rock and sand.I also have two hard corals on one rock.....My question" is there something that will knock out the bad and allow all the corals to live on"? I thank you in advance for any help with this!:headwally:

Is this strange red algae something that grows thick and blanket like? Does it come off real easy, only to seeming regrow before your eyes?

Red Turf Algae, The Scurge of Reef Tanks and Seems to be spreading all through the Hobby. The LFS have it growing all over the Snails Shells in the Frag Tanks and Lots of people that I know in our Club have it! It is almost Impossible to get rid of short of Bleaching your rock and starting over. Good luck with your endeaver to kill this Crap Weed

Not much eats that stuff :( The large turbo snails seem to do the best job, along with nutrient control to keep nitrates and phosphates down.

The short answer is no. Any broad spectrum antibiotic that would kill all the bad bacteria, will also have a deleterious effect on your good bacteria. The better idea would be to remove the nutrients that the algae is feeding on and starve it out.
