I was at the store yesterday and was wondering if This Kitchen Faucet Filtration system would filter my tap water enough until I can get a RODI system at the very least an RO system? Here is the info on it.

My LFS went under and I don't have a close place to get RODI water anymore. I was also doing some reading on the API tap water Filter also. I guess at the very least I can buy the water at the supermarket for .30 cents a gal.

I have a mixed reef if this helps

What's the system volume? How much top off water does it need per day? If it's a smallish tank and sump, use distilled water from the pharmacy or supermarket. Maybe there's a water distillery in the area. Buy 5g containers. They will probably deliver.

My vote is "no". While such a system is better than using tap water and a chloramine neutralizer like Prime, it won't remove dissolved ions, so using it for evaporation make-up will be disastrous over time.

If the issue is a plumbing connection and/or space, have you considered the RO Buddie from Aquatic Life? With the optional DI cartridge, it will produce water that's more than adequate for your reef tank.

I have to agree with no on that, I did the whole brita thing to do top ups, no good at all. I don't have an ro/di system yet as I need to remove a softner first, it's in my way. I just go to a water store with the jugs, fill em and bring em home, sucks cause it's inconvenient but it's easier than the headache dirty water will cause.

The RO Buddy I was reading about that. I can use that with any sink because its portable right?

I have a 40gal tank. I don't know what the system volume is.

I think that filter is fine for improving the taste of tap water, but I agree that it leaves a lot behind in the water that I would like removed.

Yep, and its compact size and carrying handle makes it very popular with apartment reefers. The downside is that there's not a lot of carbon filtration capacity, and you have to buy an additional cartridge to get deionization capability. But all in all a good, basic RO unit.
