Knutez's Tank Build

Did you get the 2400?

I like it. Decent flow in the tank, but i'm not trying to have to much from the return. Want plenty of contact time in my sump so I have it set for low flow. I only have my valve cracked 1/4 open. I still have enough to run my dual reactor and others.

It is real quiet, and doesn't use as much electricity. Way better than the mag 7 that I have laying around now.

I've also heard that the Jebao return pumps are pretty good. Guys at Aq Vill were talking them up the other day.

New Ceramic Media block finally showed up today. Going to put this in a high flow area of the sump for alot more biological filtration. This plus all the added surface area from the new marco rock should provide more than enough for this tank.

Updated Pictures of my sump setup with the media block in the middle. Plan on running some tubing from the valve above the middle section to give some extra flow to the ceramic block instead of using a power head. Also working out how to separate algae in the section. Trying to find some type of basket that will allow flow without attaching to the block and everything else in the sump.

Can see the tap on the valve. Just have to setup the hose to get the flow I want now.

Well finally decided on the lights I'm going to use on this tank last night. Ordered them up should be here by Friday hopefully so I can get it set up this weekend. Few other goodies coming along also.

wow, that block is huge.
I keep meaning to check how much LR that is equivalent to (by type of rock of course).

Your sump is so clean cut. I like!

Ya I didn't want it to cluttered up. We'll see what happens when I get a fuge in it too. Then have to set up my apex and ato. See how clean it all looks then :uhoh3:

Found a few new wrasses today! An exquisite that's starting to turn and a laboute male.

Horrible picture, but they are in my acclimation container.

Looks awesome Luke!

So instead of using cheato, I'm assuming you're going to use the block instead?

Is there definitely high flow in the middle chamber?

I'm sure you already know; there's a possibility that detritus could build up there if the flow isn't high enough, and be a slow building nitrate bomb.

Interesting choice though. I'd like to try out that block as well, but the way my middle chamber is designed, the baffles really slow down the flow of water (optimal for cheato, etc.)

Can't wait to see some fish & coral in there!

It has decent flow. I'm going to plumb some tube off my return pump for some added. Working on a way to float chaeto and keep it seperated from the block in this section. So far the block hasn't been bad we'll see long term how it works. I think if I i keep vacuuming the buildup out of the sump every few weeks it will be fine. Also changing out the filter sock regularly. We all know how these can get skipped over time though.

From everything I've read everyone is split down the middle on their use. For a new tank to get all that extra area/media to mature I can't see one negative. Even if it's taking it out to clean in 6 month or just completely removing it. Also ordered it before I found the extra marco rock so I think i'll have enough in the display tank without the block eventually.

Here's a quick pic of the new light setup. Have to take care of the wires, but will do that once I get it all wired with the apex etc.

DIY Screen tops finished tonight too. Keep all the wrasses in the tank. :bounce3:
