Kole Tang...My first DD purchase.

do you thaw it first or just toss it in the tank? i keep 2 different syringes full of either brine or mysis (one for the dt, one for the qt). i'm feeding 6 fish in the dt and just the tang in the qt. guess which syringe empties first! is there such a thing as fish weight watchers cause i think he's gonna need it. :D

With Brine and Mysis I have always thawed and rinsed. With the Formula 2 I am just tossing it in. It is the RDF (Rapid Delivery Formulation) and I guess it is designed to fed that way. Supposedly it is "specially made to dissolve itself in bite sized particles"...lol. It is also how my buddy at the LFS said to feed it.

i'll have to look for that. i'm heading to the lfs friday to see if i can spend my $50 gift certificate!

How is your guy looking Nina? Mine has really been pigging out the last few days. He is getting a nice little belly on him.

he's looking so good, i am having to talk myself out of taking him out of qt! he's eating like a pig, both frozen and nori. put a small piece in for him this morning and it was completely gone when i got home.

glad to hear your guy is doing well, too! is he still bashful?

He is getting much more brave. Ever since I started feeding him the Formula 2 that he likes I think he is starting to associate me with good eats...lol. I know exactly what you mean about talking yourself out of putting him in the DT. I have not decided how long I am going to wait.

that's awesome! funniest thing...when i put the syringe in with food, mine wraps his mouth around the end and it's like feeding a bottle to a baby. some food will escape and float around in the water but he ignores that until i remove the syringe and then he'll go after what he missed.

i keep telling myself 4 weeks...4 weeks...4 weeks...but it's getting harder and harder every day! but then i think, well he IS a tang after all and do i reeeeally wanna take a chance on possible ich in my dt??? no freakin' way!!

I don't think there is any way I am going to make it 4 weeks. I have plans for the area and tank he is in. Risk makes life more interesting, right?

unless LA gets a female mccosker's wrasse in and i get the e-mail in the next couple of weeks, i'm gonna stick with my original plan. the tang isn't the least bit stressed in qt so i'm gonna go with the full 4 weeks. heck, even if a female wrasse comes in, i will probably just pass on it for now so i wouldn't have to start the qt time clock all over again.

i'm learning more patience that i ever would have imagined i had!! :D

picked up some formula 2 today and he went nuts for it!

Awesome. Mine is still loving that stuff.

Did a little lighting upgrade on the QT tank. I think the Kole likes it...even the thunderstorms...lol

very nice qt set up! i've been outside since the buttcrack of dawn, mowing pastures. just came in and you would think the kole (and the other fish, for that matter) haven't been fed in a week. i had everybody's undivided attention! :D

beeeeeautiful!!! i don't know how you did that, mine won't be still long enough for a clear picture!

Thanks! I sat there for a while until he finally stopped wiggling...lol. I also used my DSLR with a pretty high ISO and shutter speed. The new lights on the tank helped.

i guess i'm gonna have to get my better camera out and pull up a chair. it's raining today so i don't have much else to do. i have a feeling i'm gonna be sitting in front of that tank most of the day! wiggle, wiggle, wiggle! lol

Had a Kole in my 100 gallon. Loved the fish, best bristle tooth tang in my opinion. Constantly moving and scraping stuff off rocks and other items through out the tank.

If you have a spot, and some people don't really like this idea, but find a spot within the tank that you don't scrap any algae off. In other words, let it build up for a natural source of food for it. Mine ate everything and anything. However, at the end of the day there was this 2 food piece of tank on the back that I just couldn't get easy enough. So, I left it alone and that was his/her go to area for some natural algae. I'd always see these mouth and snail mouth trails ;)

Most under rated tang in my opinion but I personally will always have one. Wish my 40 breeder I'm building would work but they do tend to get big.

i have left the entire back of my tank alone, i only scrape the front/sides so my guy will have plenty of eatin' spots. :) i also have only scraped the front and the visible side of the qt and i often see him picking at the back and the other side. he's doing it right now. lol

I am concerned mine may be starting to show signs of HLLE. I created a thread in the disease forum to ask others opinions. Here is a link to that thread and my post there:

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?p=22795756
I have a Kole Tang that is in QT right now. He was purchased from the Diver's Den and has been in QT for two weeks tomorrow. I noticed blotches under his eyes and right above his mouth a few days ago. At first I thought they were marking I had not noticed or some kind of color change, as they seem to be symmetrical on both sides of his face, or maybe they were scratches from nipping at PVC or something. But then I started reading about HLLE and began to get concerned. They look like they have gotten a little lighter/more noticeable since I first noticed them, or that could just be my paranoia. Do you think this is the beginning of HLLE? I have removed the GAC from the QT tank and am going to be soaking his Nori in selcon. I do 50% water changes twice a week. The only thing I have been using in the QT tank is Prime for ammonia/nitrite control. He has not been medicated with anything.

Please offer any insight you have on if this looks like HLLE, what I can do to reverse it, or any other advice. I am pretty concerned as this is an otherwise beautiful specimen.

Someone in the disease section just confirmed it is the beginning of HLLE. :( I am super bummed. I am considering moving him to the DT immediately to hopefully stop the continuance of the disease. From what I have read from a lot people, is that their fish that experiences it in QT start healing once they get them in the DT. I really want to stop this from getting worse and hopefully minimize scarring. I would hate to have permanent damage to an otherwise beautiful fish.

This really sucks.
