Kole Tang...My first DD purchase.

oh man, that just sucks!! looks like you caught it early and hopefully, whatever you decide to do, it will clear up quickly. keep us updated!

He is going in the DT. Between DD treating him with praziquantel and copper before selling and me observing him over the last two weeks I feel comfortable enough to take the chance and hopefully reverse the HLLE and minimize scarring. Risk vs reward.

Ugh.

He is in the DT. I wanted to go ahead and get him in before my light cycle kicks off. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

In my experience tangs and angels with develop hlle during copper treatment especially using cupramine .. Good news it will go away with no signs of scaring just give good water conditions and good diet.

Thanks. I hope you are right. Now that he is in the DT the water conditions will be better/more stable and he will have more natural algae to eat. I will be giving him selcon soaked nori daily. Hopefully he will start eating more meaty foods also once he sees the other fish in the DT competing for it.

fingers, toes and eyes crossed he does well!! what was his reaction, is he hiding?

I can't believe the personality difference once in the DT. He is way more brave in there and does not even attempt to hide when I come to the tank. He seems to be adjusting well. He has found his nori clip and is eating off of it. He has chased my Midas and Tail Spot blennys a bit but nothing serious. I hope the HLLE stops. I hope I made the right choice and he stays healthy.

wow, that's awesome that he is so outgoing! looking forward to hearing that he is healing and strutting around. wait...do fish strut? :)

Night and day between quarantine and DT. I've pulled mine out of the DT to treat everyone for Brook, he goes back to being super shy without live rock around. Amazing difference in personality, you aren't alone.

In general I think the more hiding places a fish has to more you will see it, how contradicting it may seem.

Are there more people here who have two cole tangs in a tank? I liked mine so much that I exchanged my nervous-making yellow tang for another. Never regretted it :)

In this case I think it is more of one fish by itself vs. being in a larger tank with many other fish. Most fish (IME) are much more comfortable & outgoing when in a tank with multiple fish vs. the only one. There are exceptions to this, but for most of the fish in this hobby I think it holds true.

i like this fish so much, i would gladly have 2 but that being said, my tank is only 75g so i'm not sure...what size is your tank?

i've already pushed the envelope by adding a second longnose hawkfish although he and the first one are practically inseparable now with zero aggression. i dunno if my luck would run out if i tried a second tang. LOL

ellis, how is your guy doing since he's been in your dt?

looks like mine has the beginnings of ich. found 2 tiny white spots yesterday so ordered some cupramine and a copper test kit. really sucks that there is NOWHERE even remotely close to me that has this sort of stuff in stock! ugh.

That really does suck Nina. Now I am really hoping I made the right decision putting him in the DT.

He is doing well so far. He is eating about 4 square inches of selcon soaked nori everyday and last night was competing with the rest of the fish for spirulina brine.

I just got a kole tang from LA over the weekend (as well as 4 other fish) and dumped him into my DT and he looks amazing. I didn't order from divers den but this being my first LA order I am amazed at the health of the fish I got. I also got a large powder blue from them on this order and he is amazing and not one trace of ich or other diseases (I don't quarantine so I'm at the mercy of maintaining low stress in the tank and crossing my fingers for healthy specimens).

all i see are a couple of tiny spots. no flashing, no labored breathing (although i realize that comes with a really bad case of ich), he's acting completely normal and still has a great appetite.

glad to hear your guy is doing well!! i picked up a 10g tank kit today. this 14g that he is in now is just a big square. i think he will like having the extra length since he's gonna be spending another few weeks in qt!!

LA fish are the bomb BUT, you would still be wise to qt. hopefully, you can dodge a bullet this time. i spent so darn much $$$ getting this 75g set up and my corals are all doing so well, i'm just not gonna take any chances.

Yes good advice. My philosophy has become that ich is a simple easy to deal with nuisance and not a killer on an established well maintained healthy setup (if you notice the majority of instances where ich takes out a tank is where it is a rather young setup. Once your tank is a couple years old ich doesn't have the same power to kill as it used to imo). Other diseases are killers though such as brook and velvet, so it's still a risk going absent of qt....

not simple if you have a reef tank. i have a LOT of corals and inverts so treating my dt for ich isn't an option.
