Kole Tang...My first DD purchase.

After browsing the Diver's Den almost daily for the last couple of years I finally made a purchase. I had been thinking about adding a Kole Tang to my tank for a while and have passed on many at the LFSs for one reason or another. I saw this guy listed late last week and pulled the trigger. He arrived today happy, active, and apparently healthy. I acclimated him and added him to my new QT tank around 1:00 today. I am taking the wait and see approach and not treating him with anything right now. If he is healthy, eating, active I will add him to the DT in a couple weeks.

He has already taken some PE Mysis, Brine, and flake. I fed very small amount of each a few hours apart. He is very shy for now so he was hiding in the PVC each time I added food. I would then sit still and observe. He hesitantly come out and taste each. He would eat some pieces and spit out some. I guess this is normal? He has been grazing at the PVC, glass, and piece of live rock I have in the tank. Tomorrow I am going to put some Nori on a clip and see if he will eat it.

I am really impressed with the condition he arrived in. My first DD purchase is going as well as it possibly could.

Sorry for the less than awesome pictures but he is shy and the lighting on the QT tank isn't the best. In person he really is a very nice specimen. Here he is...

very cute! don't add to dt for at least 6 weeks..8-10 is even better...

Yes!

I received a Midas Blenny from DD, and like you, was very impressed at the fantasic condition it came in. After 3 weeks of everything going well I decided to add it to my tank. After that, it showed signs of Flukes. Thank goodness you can treat the tank for that stuff. But never again.

he's very cute!! i am getting mine today, supposed to be here by noon.

i was able to get a real, live, warm body to talk to at the ups hub this morning. she was familiar with the last fiasco with the wrasse shipment.

when i told her the driver left a box at ANOTHER wrong address yesterday (bully sticks for my dogs...UNACCEPTABLE but at least they aren't alive!), she asked me for specific directions which i gave her. he has 2 hours...if it isn't here by noon (as promised) nina is goin' on the war path.

Wow that fish is beautiful. The first picture looks like its smiling. Thats awesome. This is one of the fish i have planned for my new tank. But its going to be a while before I get it since im adding it last.

Thanks! This is the last addition to my tank also. Another reason I waited and passed on so many I had seen locally.

Oh man, I hope for their sake more than Nina's that they don't screw this one up.

haha!!! yeah, it wouldn't have been pretty...for them!

OP gorgeous kole and sorry about hijacking your thread.

Nina did it show up?

it did, right on time, with my regular driver. woohoo!! i acclimated and released him into my qt about 45 minutes ago. he's hiding, of course, but he's really VERY pretty!!!

Thanks. I am real pleased with him so far. No worries on the thread. I hate Nazi OPs that think threads should be all about them...lol.

so, ellis, how long did your guy hide before he showed himself? i can't wait to see him out. i'm leaving lights off for a few hours and i'll turn on the actinics later.

**happy dance**

Awesome Nina. When he was first put in the tank, I had the room pretty dark and he stayed out for a few minutes then went into the PVC. About 45 minutes later I peaked in the room and he was still hiding. I turned on the room lights and left the room. About 45 minutes after that I peaked in and he was exploring the tank so I turned on the tank light which is just a 5w led fuge light in a swing arm lamp. He hid again when the light came on. About 45 minutes after that I peaked in and he was exploring again. As soon as he saw me he hid. I pulled up a chair and sat still and a few minutes later he was out exploring again. If I made large movement he would hide again for a minute or so. He still hides when I come into the room or if I am moving around too much. He is pretty skittish but I guess that is understandable considering the journey he just had.

I don't really know if that answered your question. Post some pictures when yours comes out! Did you order yours off DD? I saw a real pretty one listed there a day or so after I ordered mine that was around 3-1/2"

thanks, ellis, that answers my question. my qt is in a fairly dark corner of my kitchen. i turned on the actinics a little while ago and i've seen him out picking at the rocks a few times. i have some nori rubber banded to a rock i will give him in a bit. he's stunning! can't get a picture yet, he's still too bashful. :)

he will be the biggest fish in my tank when he goes into the dt. hope he adjusts as well as my mccosker's did. that little guy is out ALL the time and eats like a horse!

I do this too. I found the back corner of my kitchen is the most unobtrusive, and yet variable (with light, controlled by me) location I have, that I will see/visit every day. The kitchen, IMO, is a great QT location.

this is the best i could do after sitting in front of the tank for 15 minutes! he comes out for mysis but before i can snap a picture, he darts back behind the rocks.

thankfully, my danes pay absolutely no attention to either tank. funniest thing a little while ago...tang was out pecking at the rocks, the movement caught swee' pea's attention and she stopped to look. poor fish took one look at the ginormous dog and boom, he was behind the rocks before i could blink!

Mine has not really eaten yet today. I have offered Flake, Pellets, Nori, and PE Mysis. He has tasted it all and spit it back out. Hrmmm

I don't think I will try again until tomorrow. Maybe he needs to get hungry.
