Kolorscape sand anyone?

I found a half pallet of OldCastle Kolorscape (white play sand @ sugar size) that I'm going to go and pick up tomorrow. I counted at least 25 bags and I will be using 12-15 for my primary DSB.

Important note:

Despite some claims to the contrary, OldCastle Kolorscape White Play Sand is not aragonite or even partial aragonite. It is screened and purified silica. I performed nine acid tests on three different bags and didn't get so much as one bubble.

It 'is' however, viable for a denitrifying DSB and serves well for most fuana.

See Dr. Shimek's remarks on silica DSB on ReefCentral.

I will be using oolitic or Southdown for the fuge DSB to serve as a better breeding ground and pH buffer, but this will work fine for the display.

Anyone else want/need some of this?

I think you'll be fine using it. I've read all the facts on the silica and that's what I ended up using in my tank as well and haven't had any problems yet with it.

Yes its generally harmless, the only time when it is of much concern is if you have sand sifting fish. (because the sharp edges may cause them harm)

Especially if you are only to use it in your sump I would not worry about it.

Note: This is according to what I have read, not personal experience.

I have had a sand sifting goby in my tank for about 9 months so far and he hasn't complained yet! :D
