Koralia Evolution running backwards?

Well, I got up this morning and guess what, the pump was running backwards AGAIN!!!! I fixed the bushing AGAIN and went to work. Just got home from work and guess what, pump running backwards AGAIN. This is a big PITA. Hydor needs to come up with a fix and quick, or I'm just gonna go with Vortechs. I know they cost alot, but I won't have to put up with this crap. Very disappointing!!!!!!!

shoot them an email. this way, they know its a problem.

Just put a tiny dab of superglue on the bushing to hold the thing in place. That way it still can be removed it needed. I know hydor needs to fix / address this but come on, no need for drama or to buy $800 in powerheads when you can do a quick fix for less than 50 cents *LOL*

This sucks, mine is running backwards too. I just put superglue on the bushing and hope that works.

the same problem happens to those knock-off "SunSun JP101, JP102" koralia, tunze nanostream knockoffs. I have reefer friends that got their powder blue tangs sucked in because these pumps ran backwards. (probably sleeping or something stupid)

Uh oh... I smell a recall in the works. This isn't good for us or our vulnerable livestock that can easily get hurt because of them. :thumbdown

No healthy fish will be sucked into a backwards running powerhead. The suction is almost nothing on the front side and they have a grate to prevent it. Even my modified k4's which blow the evo 1400's away flow wise could not suck any of my fish in running backwards & never came close do doing so. I could watch fish swim in front of them while they ran backwards *LOL*

any more info on the superglue fix. Just picked up my 1400's and wonder if i should do this before I even start using them.

I have had mine running all day after supergluing them last night. No backward starts. I would just glue them before you even put them in water.

Mine runs backwards as well. Mine will be a pain in the *** to remove and "glue" snice one or 2 is behind rockwork.

Hydor is aware of the issue with some of the Evolutions. This is just a minor hick-up with a simple solution.

The issue is with the lubricant on the o-ring. If you clean off the lubricant from the o-ring and from the inside of the wing where the bushing sits, the bushing will not slip and the pump will not be able to run backwards.

Kudoos to Number1Gsxxr. Gluing the bushing in place with a small drop of super glue will prevent the issue as well.

Thank you for the post. I will clean mine before I start using them.

I just wish my 1400's produced more flow. I am taking them out tonight and putting my modded k4's back in as they produced wicked flow in comparison but at double the wattage.

I've ran both also, and while a modded K4 may produce a little more flow than an EVO K4, its also bigger, clunkier & the flow is not as linear.

Personally I think the new K4's flow is more than adequate, in addition to it being smaller & dead silent.

the bushing kept coming off even after adjustment. i decided to superglue the bushing, and so far it has worked. only time will tell. imo, hydor came out with a flaw product. more testing should hv been done to ensure quality b4 releasing onto markets.

I just superglued 2 of mine today after I came home to two frozen pumps :/ Hopefully that solves it.

Agreed, from the sound of it, seems like just a week or two testing period will be long enough for these problems to surface and quick fix could be done.

on the other hand, these things are running out of LFS like no tomorrow, so I guess there won't be any recalls.

I don't have the evolution but I did buy a koralia nano pump about 4 days ago and it froze up on me last night. How the heck do you get those things apart??

koralia evo

koralia evo

does anybody tried it with pulsing timer, on-off for just half a second?
does it make any noise.

i am using a maxijet with sure flow attachment, with my DIY pulse timer but it creates a bit of annoying sound, thinking of purchasing koralia evo..

thanks for help
