Korallia disappointment

I had 2 sicce voyager pumps that died a month ago after 14-15 months of work. One of them mike at So Cal warrantied for me.

I bought a korallia from another store (not to be named) and it failed in under 40 days. I was told by the owner of the store that I need to clean them more often... ***! Clean them every week?!??!! forget that.

This is my 3rd korallia. They have lasted 1 month, 2 months, and 4 months... That will be the last. My jaboe and rio pumps last longer. I run vortechs at home. They are noisy but I love them.

More serious note how often you clean your power heads?? I try for 6 months but usually ends up every 8-9 months

i just cleaned my tunze 6105's for the first time since ive had them (over 3 years).

I am planning to clean them more often now

My koralias also failed me prematurely.. I ended up with tunzes as well..and have not cleaned them in awhile..maybe its time.

I've got 10 of the koralia 1400's run by a red Sea wave controller. They have been running just fine for over 3 years now. The most cleaning I have ever done is to take them apart when I'm cleaning the tank and rinse them out in the tank by shaing them around in the water, nothing else. They seem to work great.

the only issues I have with them is that after about a year of use, the small rubber "bump stop" that keeps them from running backwards seems to break and fall out. this allows them to run backwards. I did get new replacements for them from koralia at no cost the first time they all broke. I haven't asked them about replacing them a second time. I am going to see if i can purchase them this time around as I don't expect them to replace them again. I would have paid for the first replacement but they were kind enough to replace them.

My other issue is that after several years, the rubber suction cups don't hold up and will not keep the pumps attached to the wall. My acrylic is too thick for just the magnets.

Other than those two minor issues, mine seem to work fine.

Hey I'd like to know the name of the store that told you you need to clean your pumps more often because that was a really stupid thing to say after a pump broke so soon. That's a good store to never go to again.

He did offer to replace it with another korallia and I declined because I don't trust those pumps anymore. Would have happily taken my money back.

The reason I'm protecting the name of the store is; because he was going to replace it even though he thought it was my fault, I believe it to be the pumps fault not the stores, and the store doesn't run the pumps because they don't want to clean them.

I'm wanting to try out the new direct drive pumps from maxspect that were introduced at inter zoo and now at macna. They look awesome!

Nothing special at all. I'm probably the worst when it comes to cleaning pumps.

On the front "cage", if you look close, you will see a small black rubber bmper. It sits to one side of the propeller shaft. This is supposed to keep the impeller from spinning backwards at start up.

AS I said, I run all of mine on a red Sea Pro controller so they are on and off all the time. Just after about a year of that, the "bumper" breaks off. Guess it can't handle all the start ups. But the pumps work fine. I really like them. They are inexpensive, quiet, and draw hardley any power compared to the output. 6 watts for 1400 GPH.

I have 6 hydor Korallia power heads in my tank. I have not cleaned any of them for the last 6 months. I used to switch out the screens for cleaning. Minimal maintenance
I do use them with a wave maker so they get to turn off on and periodicaly.
May be I have the old style which are reliable! Hydor does replace the screen and impellers for free, so besides the ugly looking issue, I don't have anything to complain. How did yours break?

I have several Koralia's, maybe 5-6 total and have 2 that is 2+ yrs old with two cleanings only and two nanos that I've had running on and off for the last 4-5 yrs just fine.

Which Voyager? I have a Voyager 2 and Voyager 3 I could sell you dirt cheap if you need a powerhead or two. Lol

I found that the easiest way to deal with PHs is just clean them like one would clean a skimmer. So I soak my PHs in vinegar overnight and they work like new. Helps to do it every 6 months or so.

I have never soaked a PH in vinigar and have some that have been in service for over 4 years. But I have also never soaked my skimmer.

Maybe once a year I'll wash them out.

Strange thing about the voyager. It had problem even after cleaning. A little smack and back in business. 1-2 always need a little help. The others don't, I have/had 6.
