Kovy's 180G Reef

- Update, BIG UPDATE!!! -

The tank HAS ARRIVED! Pics soon!!!!

Now, a lot of decisions have been adjusted at the last minute.

The stand: Needs to be rebuilt. When I had the pieces cut at the hardware store, they cut some of the pieces short. I didn't realize this till I put together %80 of the stand, and once I did, I also realized some of the lumber had cracked. To make it even worst, my circular saw broke. So I couldn't cut the whole stand down shorter. Then I noticed my 3/4" ply top for the stand was cut 1/2" too short. I won't have the tank sitting half an inch without support. Not happening.

So in light of my umm....shortcomings, I decided to have the stand built by the cabinet maker. More on that soon.

I decided to hold off on the Radions and wait for the AI VEGA Color to come out. I'll save a few bucks with that to use on coral.

Congrats Kovy!!! Getting the tank is an exciting time. Enjoy!

Yup, I learned a couple things today. The tank is a lot bigger in person than I thought it would be even after outlining the floor with painters tape, and glass tanks are VERY VERY VERY heavy. Lots of watch your fingers! and careful careful CAREFUL!!! OK stop...STOP....STOP! :D

That's a lot better than hearing I'm losing it, I'm losing it.

I had the same thing happen to my stand also but I made the wrong cutting errors to the wood. So I am getting my stand built too.

At the end of the day, It makes more sense for me to have the stand built professionally, since I'm not really an experienced DIYer. I would much rather be able to tell the tank manufacturer my stand was built professionally if the tank were to break, than have my own building experience at fault.

Now, as promised here are some pics of the tank in the house, taking up a ton of space in the den while we wait for the movers to carefully carry the tank down a flight of stairs into the basement.

Everything looks amazing, the seams are great and the eurobrace is fantastic, but I did notice they drilled one too many holes. My original tank plans called for six holes atop the eurobrace, then I switched it to four which may be why they drilled five, mistaking the old design for the new one then realizing.

I'll probably find a use for that hole somehow, maybe for an automatic fish feeder.

-- Update, I never planned to make.

Im selling the tank, and switching back to freshwater. I ran out of funds for my dream tank. Everything adding up was just too expensive, and that was before a single coral was bought.

Maybe some day I will be able to make a reef tank but now just isn't the time. This is probably my last post here. Good bye!

Kovy:

Take a deep breath and think about things...

There is a lot of equipment, used or discounted, for sale here on Reef Central, Craigslist, EBay and other places online. Heck, I have a lot of equipment lying around. Sure, there are a lot of "bells & whistles" out there... They aren't necessary to have an amazing reef tank!

You have spent a lot of time here on Reef Central and your input to all of us has been very valuable.

Don't give up!

Make a list of the items you NEED. Let's see what is out there. You don't need everything overnight!

I know that many of us will be able to and will take pleasure in assisting you!

Couch, big screen, aquarium, video games... Do u ever leve the house?? I wouldn't..

I know I am late but couldn't resist.

Don't give up Kovy! If I didn't when my wife got stage 4 cancer you can't. You can do this just plan it out if it takes longer who cares.
