LA order

I received a Gig from LA. It does not look like a gig to me. There are no spots on the underside of it. It is currently in a QT tank and I started cipro yesterday since it is not sticky at all. I have had Gigs before but they both had blue / purplish spots on the underside / column. I had them for years but they were sold when I got divorced and moved. (Could not take the 125 or 180 into an apt.)

Any ideas?

OH btw...the mouth is closed up tight so that IS a good thing. I am waiting to hear back from LA...I sent them pics yesterday about noon.

I agree that it doesn't appear to be S. gigantea. It could be S. helianthus but it should have more pronounced brownish orange verrucae.

I would contact LA right away to let them know. Apparently this has happened before. DD is pretty good about their IDs, LA not so much.

Regarding "stickiness" I don't think it's an indicator of health. It just means that the nem has the ability to fire its nematocysts. I've had a gig that was able to fire its nematocysts (was "sticky") up until I removed it from the tank, tissue necrosis had fully set in and it stank to high hell.

Can you show us a photo of the oral disc? Usually I can ID S. helianthus based on the tentacle layout.

Yes...That is why I contacted them within 5 mins of opening the box. It is NOT a Gig...and I am pretty ticked off. If I am spending over $100 I expected to get what I ordered. This is the first time I have ordered anything live from LA....I will not be ordering from them again. Ticked off is a mild statement.

Now the question is...what the heck do I do with it? I only have the 1 tank and I do not want my fish to get eaten. Sadly I live in an area that has 0 places to get one local.

The nearest LFS that carries SW is 2 hours away and they do not get gigs in often. Seems when and if they do...they go to their local customers before they even hit the display tanks.

I have ordered from LA many times and have never had a misidentified item; but of course it can happen. The measure of any good seller is in how they rectify issues. I'd be shocked if LA did not either give you a full refund or ship out a replacement - thus attenuating your outrage.

I did hear back from LA. The did agree that is was NOT a Gig and apologized for sending me the wrong anemone. The said (in the email) they would refund the cost of the anemone. I called them right away to ask about refunding the shipping charges as well since It was no fault of MINE that they shipped the wrong anemone to me. They agreed and while on the phone they also said they still had Gigs in stock, SO instead of getting a refund they are shipping me a New Gig on Monday for Tuesday Delivery.

I HOPE it is really a true Gig this time. As for whatever I got the first time...I am not sure what to do with it??? I do not want it and I do not know anyone in my area that would want it. I do not want to take the chance of it eating my Percula pair. I have had them a long time and I love them. (even though they have refused bubble anemones for a host and prefer to host the powerhead grrrr....hence ordering the Gig)

Any ideas?

Last resort is to set up a nano for it....OH darn!! Hate it when I "have" to set up yet another tank. LOL

Do you have sand in your tank? If not then you will definitely need to set up another tank for it.
BTW, it is probably way less likely to eat your fish than a gig will be.

The confusion was mine it appears.
Heteractis aurora attaches to rock amongst rubble or sand.
