Large Tank Skimmers

I have come to the conclusion it is time for a new skimmer the DT is 510 with a 300 in the basement sump. I think I have a small bio-load at 22 fish but they are all still little

What should I look at? We looked at a used Mr-C4848 this weekend but it would require another hammerhead, not a big deal but looking to ask the experts

That's a lot of water, and assuming eventually you're going to 'fill it', I think you need a big skimmer. I use MTC on my tank, and they certainly make (or can make) very large units. Lifereef make one that is rated to handle 1500 gallons, and MRC make a few really large ones as well.

Or you can ask to the guy from marinetech to build one.

For a tank your size, my first choice would be a Bubble King Supermarin 300 or a Bubble King Deluxe 300. Then again, your display size is similar to mine. I have a 480 display with about 650g total volume. I have a heavy load with 50+ fish and I run a Supermarin 250 which is about perfect for my load. As such, you could easily get away with a Supermarin 250.

Another good alternative would be on of the ATB skimmers.

Slief and I have very similar tastes...although I personally put ATB on my personal choice list at number 1.

No we have not decided yet - we currently have an internal skimmer to the sump and it is just not big enough, going to do some sump reconfiguration to take an external skimmer in the next few weeks.

I have the reef octopus regal 300ext and absolutely love it! i dialed it in the day it was set up and havent had to touch it other than to clean ever since!

+1 I use the SRO5000sss and love it. The 6000 would work for you. RK2 and Bubble King also lifereef. Depends on what type of skimmer you want. Venturi, air driven counter current (Beckett), aspirating impeller skimmers or downdraft? All mentioned skimmer designs other than aspirating impeller skimmers require serious pumps to run them correctly
