Latezonatus Clowns on DD a few days ago

My lfs in Bangkok had some in last weeks
They went in seconds!
I can pm the Facebook site it has some nice pics!

Nyaquatics had some wild ones a couple weeks ago. They were $800 for the pair. I'm thinking of trying a pair of these captive ones next time a well formed pair pops up. Just debating whether I want to get rid of my current Percs. I'm assuming a pair of latz with a pair of Percs is a definite no go in a 90 with 2 Magnifica and 3 gigantea?

They should be fine together. Might be a good idea to take the percs out for a week and then add the two pairs at the same time.

Latezonatus can be quite mean - and they get large.
To make them work with a pair of percula you would need to have a barrier between them and an appropriately mean fish guarding it so that none of the pairs dares to take a peek at the other side.

BTW, DD has two baby pairs right now.

I had a pair of them in the late 90s. Back then they were much more affordable. If I remember correctly it was just $250 for an adult pair.

Last time I bought a pair, in 2005, my LFS charged me $80 each.

Price-gouging at its best. They aren't rare. They aren't even uncommon in their native range. However because they come from Australian collectors, and Australian collectors have strict unit restrictions, they would rather catch specimen angels that they can wholesale for $200 each than a clown that they wholesale for $20. So someone asked the question - what if we asked the same amount for a common clown as for a rare adult angel - do you think people would actually PAY that much? Apparently they will and do...

For the record, this is what a healthy adult pair looks like. Not those misshapen misfits...

I have a pair of Karen's captive bred latezonatus on the way from Among the Reef. For the time being they will have to share a 20 gallon tank with my yellow Assessors and janssi pipefish.

Nice. I got some from there too. Karen must be pumping them out now.

So you got the other two or did you get them earlier?
Do you think the ones at DD are from Karen as well? Some of them certainly look the part and none of the recent has any misbaring.

I got them a few weeks ago. I assume the ones from DD are Karen's too but I don't know for sure. PacificIsleAquatics also had some of Karen's recently

Jordan sells them for $300 a pair, which I think is fair. The $400 (399) DD sells them for likely reflects their larger overhead.
Anyone who ever bred clownfish (wild forms) can tell you that what you usually get for them from a LFS (let's not even talk wholesalers) is a joke when comparing the work it takes. If you then consider also that the life-expectancy of a clownfish can be anywhere between 20 and 30 years (counted from hatch), than most clownfish are terribly undervalued.
