Lawn mower blenny building a nest?

Bent

I got nothin'
Ok why is he doing this? He's not done anything like this before. He has dug himself/herself a pit, and is defending it fiercely from anything including my hand, the turkey baster, anything. If it gets within 3" of the pit, he goes in the for the kill. He doesn't just attack and send a warning message, he goes full on. I'm starting to be afraid he's going to hurt somebody.

Sorry for all the blue, the lights were going down.

What's the deal with this? Has anyone else experienced this? He is one of my original inhabitants and he's been in the tank since August. There have been no new additions recently.

LMAO.. Blenny's can be territorial. Especially thouse that reside in the anals in smaller tanks. Not sure how large your tank is but like I said, they can get agressive. While mine usually hangs out on the rocks and leaves everybody alone I have a very large tank wiith several hundred pounds of live rock. I have a starry blenny in my 50g display fuge and he's always in the same spot. They will find their own places to call home and he probably finds your sandbed comfortable and it likely gives him a good perspective/vantage point on what's going in the rest of the tank and perhaps in an area of less intense lighting or away from the flow.

It's just a little 55 standard.

I wonder what suddenly made him decide to go all "Great Wall of china" on everybody out of nowhere.

He's one of my favorite fish. He's always doing something interesting. And good grief he's fat, looks like he swallowed a chicken egg.

He dig the pit out himself, clears it out with his tail fin.

Sounds like he's making himself at home. They are personality plus, aren't they? It's amazing how fat those little guys get. Then again, they pretty much forage all day long so it's no wonder. It cracks me up when I look at mine and he practically wobbles on his fat belly. He can't even sit properly on the rocks because his belly gets in the way of him sitting flat. Maybe that's why yours likes the sand.. It contours to his belly! :bounce3:

lol it's quite possible.

When he tries to "perch" his gut is so fat that his pec fins can't reach to prop him up and he just rolls over. LOL.

Thats kind of shocking. Mine would go down fighting. I should have named him William Wallace.

Sounds awesome; one of my favorite fish. First one I had for 5 years would sit in my hand and eat. Haven't found one with that much personality again.
