Learning/rebuilding from my epic fail

Thanks, Matt.. We'll see how it goes.
Here's a colour shot.. Ssc in front, Cali tort in the left and myagi tort on the right..

Good God Man! What an amazing shot! I really ought to pick up some Myagi... I am pretty sure March at Fragbox has it.... texting him now...

I am pretty sure I have AEFWs... the last thing I want to do is go through the pain of a tear down and QT.... I blast everything everyday with a baster and I only notice some eggs every now and again...

I am going to pick up a Mystery Wrasse this weekend, hopefully that will help even more.

I am also loving that Furiosa. Is Raging Reef a Montreal outfit?

Hi Matt.....

what do you meant by...." tips crystallized"..

I haven't heard that before and I would like to learn . I will do some Googling too.

Cheers
Daniel
Hey Dan, that is not very clear... Sorry.. The skeleton was not growing properly on the tips. It was as though there were crystals of skeleton below the flesh. It was all bumpy, rough and soft below the flesh....
I can only assume this was from my high magnesium levels for killing bryopsis, I had months ago..
Impressive stuff Matt - great corals & quality pictures
Thanks Greg!

Thanks! March does indeed have a piece... The myagi is a stunning coral when it is really happy..
This is my favorite myagi shot:

I have a few pieces (at least one from March) for some reason and they are all really nice..
I'm glad you like that shot.. Unfortunately, I recently separated all of those pieces to give them more room to grow, so I couldn't take that shot again..
The aefws are an itch I can't scratch which always bothers me but I'm not going to go crazy... It's not worth it... I'm too old for that doodoo... Try some peppermint shrimp.. I'm convinced that they will eat aefw eggs.. They obviously have not eradicated aefw from my tank but I think they really slow them down..
Raging reef is in Montreal. Yeah, I'm loving the Furiosa as well! He usually has the best acropora in the city. Corals in general, actually... Reef solution in Laval often has really nice stuff as well..
It's funny you posted here because I literally just finished sending Thang an email asking him about a couple of his pieces that I purchased from March.. Was asking about lighting requirements for my scorpion and blueberry wine..
They aren't looking the best in my tank..
See what he says..

Thang's Blue Berry Wine is a stunner, takes a little time to settle in but really defines what a royal blue acro should look like

Wow, that Myagi. I really hope the frag I have is one as well. It's getting odd green stripes in the skin that gives me hope.

Hi Matt,

I have been quietly following your thread and wish to commend you on the work you have done and the results of this work. Your corals look stunning.

I first heard about raging reef in this thread and my wife and I made a trip there yesterday. I felt like a kid in a candy store, with only a dollar to spend. :) The variety of SPS, LPS and Zoas was amazing. I ended up with 5 SPS frags and a promise to return. We met Raja (da boss) and his shadow Monti (black pug).

Raja suggested we go to the Grill and Go for supper. (Across the street). Their ribs rock.

Next time, I will pad the wallet more and spend more time there. I might even set the GPS to 'find reefmutt' and crash your place. :)

Keep up the great work.

Ward

Just came back for a drag show and picked up a nice frag of Blueberry Wine from Thang. I can't believe the Color! I'll try and get a pic tomorrow.

Mine currently looks like a basic tri color.. I just put it back in my tank... I'll get a 'before' shot for reference.. It's worth giving it a lot of time to colour up, I think..

Hope so! It's a beautiful coral despite the green!
Green appearing usually bums me out Mark lol...........:p
Agreed, but in the myagi, the green really sets off the purple. It's a great contrast..

Hey Ward, clad your trip was successful! Let me know next time you're around, if we can coordinate a visit, why not!
Thanks for the kind words!

Yes! Please do post a pic. I'd love to see what your frag looks like.

Fantastic tank pictures Matt. The Acro distribution looks so pleasant to the eyes. Very well done mate !!!

What is Glenn's method? I have some bubble algae that is now diminishing but always looking for new methods.

Thanks, Matt! I gotta go catch up on your Aquaforest transition

The imperial deep water pigment assassin droid began wading through the gross green acro scape of Moosooine in search of worthy pigments..........

Hey Matt, The tank looks really good! FTS look excellent!

Sorry to hear about finding AEFW, I know a bunch of people who have them in their tanks for years and still have good growth and color so there are things you can do to keep the populations down, I had them a long time a ago too.

Blowing on the acro with a turkey baster will dislodge the worms and throw them into the water column, I have found that if you do this certain fish will eventually start eating the worms as they are dislodged. Even normal yellow wrasses will eat them once the show up in the water column. I used to have two yellow wrasses that would follow me around the tank when I brought the turkey baster out, eating AEFW when they popped off the corals, eventually you should notice less and less. But it is just a means of control, it does not get rid of them. I still have no answer for that.

You can also try blasting them with rodi water too, they will pop off the corals even quicker if you do that.

Tank looks fantastic Matt! Lots of lovely colours :D and the fish look amazing and healthy too!! :inlove: especially the Bellus, she's real purdy!!

That is the cause for sure, I've confirmed it myself.
