Learning/rebuilding from my epic fail

My Hawkins is doing well but I got an icefire frag, this was after the tank was improving, and it died in dramatic fashion after 2 weeks. Hopefully yours does well.

I lost my piece too, I find it to be as sketchy as the Hawkins, just does not like change too much :) I could never really keep the Hawkins happy either, but got lucky with my colony, it is becoming a beast, lol.... Great stuff Matt!

Thanks, guys! My experience is that it is even less hearty than the Hawkins.
There seem to be a few varieties of ice fire echinata.. All seem very finicky..

Hey Matt i also have blue Led and true actinics for dawn dusk and love it so much. Would love to see some pics of your tank with just those on in the future.

I think I can accommodate that request. I find it very difficult to get satisfying photos with only that light but I'll see what I can do.. :)

cool echi matt!Wish i could keep them alive too:(
Who do you think will win if they reach each other, echi or the green on the right?
I see you made some cuts already:p

Love the Ice Fire. If you want another one Divers Den has a "DFS Real Deal" in the aquaculture section right now. Love this tank, keep up the good work!

Hey Mike, actually the echinata seems to be winning. I've been breaking off the new growth of the green one so inthinknits stressed and not very tough. I really want the echi to win!

LOL tank looks great man! I don't mind a little algae in a tank, but I realize I'm probably a minority in thinking this.
Thanks Josh, well then you'll like the following photo update. Plenty of algea.. Cyano is doing the rounds in the tank atm.. Haven't dosed to kill it yet. I'll give it some time.

Thanks, Ted. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat but those American sites can't ship to Canada..
I'm looking into getting another piece from a vendor out east but so far he hasn't responded to my inquiries..
That icefire is stunning in fact all the corals are stunning;)
Thanks, Robbie.
Here's a few new wide shots.. With some closer stuff to follow.. I can't post just wide shots.. Love the macros too much!

Those are fantastic Matt!!! Looking really good and certainly growing a ton! I love the combination of several corals in one shot:)

Amazing. !!!!

That's all I can say because I am speechless.

Dan, thank you very much!
It's time (for better or worse) for an update on your thread.
I see the troubles aren't over, but at least things are changing and when they change, it means you can change them in the right direction.

Thanks, Matt, I would say 30% of corals are growing very well, another 30% are growing, about 20% are growing slowly and another 20 are still doing nuttin'
But I'm pretty happy in general at the moment.

Matt your tank is stunning!
love every picture you post!!

give me more :D

Cheers

Thanks, Flo.. Well I'm happy to oblige! :)

Amazing tank Matt. Time to read the thread from the very beggining and learn in the process.

Sergi

Sergi, thank you for that very, very flattering addition to my thread!
This hobby is such a fantastic intermingling of art and science.
Once the science gets nailed down- to a certain extent- the art part becomes more prevalent.
Although, the science can NEVER be overlooked..
This thread ain't short anymore.. Good luck going through it!!
And thanks again for checking in.

And since I'm here, I'm going to post a few more shots.. Because I just want to.
Here's Furiosa..

Fiji fruit bowl.

Cool contrast..

Here's my little ice fire

And here's the very interesting but totally green coral growing directly below it. I love the growth pattern.. Too bad it isn't purple red and yellow!

I'm never disappointed looking at your photo's. You must mave a nice Macro lense. I'm sure you've mentioned what lense you have but I don't feel like reading through hours of thread... Lol

Mike, thank you! When you tank 'grows up' it's not going to need to look like anybody else. It's in a class of its own!

Just insane Matt. Please don't ever stop posting pictures thanks.
Thanks! I'll do my best!
holy moly... it´s Matt again

thanks for sharing!!

Flo
:) anytime, Flo!

Thanks, I hope to not disappoint!
The really close ups are with Canon's 100 mm macro L lens- so yes, a very good lens. But most of the wider shots are with Canon's EF-S 15-85 mm. Not an L but still pretty sharp.
I'm looking to buy the 60mm macro by Canon just it have a little bit wider field of view but still the sharpness of a macro..

Here's a few more..

This is supposed to be called Cherry Blossom. It hasn't started to grow yet, so I'm not sure what its potential is.. From uncle Raja.

This is a cool wild Aussie frag that grows excruciatingly slow.. Very cool looking..

Last one.. Classic red dragon. Always looks so cool up close..

Ok.. That's all my new shots... :)
