Least-aggressive clownfish?

Which clowns are least aggressive....not towards other clowns, but other fish in general?

From my research, it seems like Perculas & Ocellaris are the least aggressive, with Tomatoes & Maroons the most. (Which is a shame coz I think Maroons are the most attractive.)

This is for a 75G mixed tank.

hey the perculas are definately the least agressive

However if you like the marroons go ahead and put one in the tank.
Just make sure there is alot of territory in the tank and try to make sure that he is one of the last fish in the tank.

If it doesn't work out just trade the fish in for something else from the store.
Most LFS will take a fish back if he is a problem in your tank

Do you have any fish that would be smaller than the clown?

With a 75 you can house a pair of maroons or tomato. Those two are the hardest to pair. So its better to buy a pair or take risk and pairing them up. And ocellaris and percs are the less agressive fish. Had 3 in a 20 gallon once and there was never a problem.

The gold stripe maroons i had in the past weren't aggressive in the least bit.

I've seen mean freaking percula's, so it's a two-way fence.

Generally speaking, Percs and Ocellaris clowns are the least aggressive. However, once in a while you will find some individuals that have a mean side. The opposite is with Maroons. Most maroons are usually territorial and aggressive but I had a buddy of mine that had two maroons and both were harmless.

My percula has killed 3 damsels, and another percula in my nano... Because of him, I can't add anything else to the tank.

I also used to have a tomato in my 75 and it chased my tang and Ocellaris around all the time...

I've never had problems with my Ocellaris....

Hopefully you'll get lucky and end up with a peaceful fish.

IME the least aggro are skunks, next would be occs.

I would second the skunks being very non aggressive.........I've had ocellaris, tomato, maroon, fire, and clarkii bite ME.......never a skunk though.........and I like the skunks........stay small and attractive

I'd stay away from maroons, saddlebacks, tomatos and clarkiis. Skunks are the sweetest-natured IME, but occelaris clowns are pretty mellow most of the time. My female occy bites me, but doesn't bother any of her tankmates (as a matter of fact, it's her that's most often pushed around by the others).

I want a peaceful clown, but not a boring (to me) old Perc or Ocellaris.

Thanks for the tip about the skunks, never considered them...but the Pink Skunks are pretty cool. I also like the Naked false percs, so will probably go with one of those two.

I'm not sure what means...I did some initial research, asked for advice, and got it...including one suggestion (skunks) that I hadn't even considered.

My GSM's don't seem to be too aggressive, even though the female is ~5".... They also don't stray far from their anemone though, so I guess if anything started creeping in their territory I'd find out how aggressive they really are.

yes, they're agressive, yes, they're territorial, but they are beautiful and have tons of personality.

i *think* pairs are more compatible (many will counter pairs will spawn and that makes them more territorial)--couples are happier than singles.
couples with nems are happier (again, the counter is they are very territorial of their nem, but they have a demarcated lot--stay out of the nem, you'll be fine...)
well fed clowns are less combative than hungry ones (just like people...you'll never see a well fed, employed society plotting revolution, half the people are too busy and half the people are too apathetic!). following this philosophy, things to do must also help: things like chasing your spouse around the nem!

anyway, each fish is an individual, we were all just casting racist dispersions...use those stereotypes, care for your tank well, and things should work out fine.

if not just blame 55semireef...he's a florida fan...

FWIW I do have a pair of maroons, and they ARE cool w/ all my other fish.
I'm happy w/ my choice.
Sometimes tougher to pair, so I advise buying them as a pair.
Now the black clowns, they be trouble FO SHO!
My next ones will be those all white clowns, cause they can't jump(out of tank! )LOL

I may be stereotyping, but based on my experience with my GSM pair, I'd NEVER, ever add them to my 90g - I have no doubt they'd tear apart the goby, the damsels, even the tang and the angel would probably be in trouble. My GSMs alone for life. They are sweet to each other, but put a hand in (or a face too near) their tank and it's a whole different story - they're nothing but teeth and spines. For that reason, I'd never suggest maroons in a community tank. Some people have luck with them when they're young (they can turn on tankmates when they mature), some have mature pairs that work well with other fish, but the majority of maroons live up to their reputation as tempermental, territorial little monsters.
