Leemar Peninsula 280 Gallons Build Out Door Sump

type of tank

type of tank

I have had few LPS in the past (hammerhead, toadstool, zoas etc) but never tried SPS. So this tank, I'm planning on keeping only SPS and no green colored SPS. I mean, I don't want to have any green colored coral in the tank. Just seems like a very common color in the hobby.

I agree that green seems to be the most common SPS, but I like having a mix of colors. For instance, I have a Bali Slimer which is a bright neon green. Also Chili Pepper Montis look cool. So IMO, don't say no to green, just keep it limited.

I agree with you guys, green is very common I am from Bronx NY and that's all the color corals I get from coral shops they barely have blue or purple etc no bushy corals

Green is also more common because many of the green corals are quick growers -- such as the bali slimer. However, having green corals helps other coral colors to pop more. For example, any purple coral in front of a green one stands out a lot more. These purple corals -- such as the purple monster or Oregon tort -- are notoriously slow growers and tend to be more finicky when it comes to water and lighting parameters.

Take out the green and you will only have pinks and purples ;) My vote to the green slimer or the green milli

Yeah may be I will bring the green corals later and like divingtheworld said, I will keep in limited numbers and then it should be ok. Till then I will have green algae on rocks whether I like it or not. most of the tanks in the beginning goes through this phase I guess. lol

Subscribed, this is an awesome build so far, can't wait to see how this turns out.

I considered an outdoor sump for my 180 but decided against it because of the hot weather in the Walnut Creek/Concord area during the summer, and also cold nights in the winter.

Keep up the great work.

just back from vacations and trips

Haven't had time and I just resumed the work last week. This sunday evening I will post some updates.

Outdoor sump inside a green house

So I have been working most of the weekends. Vacations to Hawaii, San Diego etc put a big dent on the progress but wanted to show where I'm at. The sump has double insulation of rigid insulation board each of R value 13. So I would say the total R value of the wall should be around 30.

Almost done with my outdoor sump. Next week I will have to build a doghouse kind of structure for my outdoor chiller, and an acrylic door for the sump.

After that it is just pvc plumbing.

here is my outdoor sump:

Already bought some fish and they are in quarantine

Already bought some fish and they are in quarantine

Not going to keep anything more than 3". So the fish should be mellow and small.

Here is the list I got and right now they are being treated by Chloroquine Phosphate (precautionary treatment).:

  • 10 Chromis
  • 1 blue flasher wrasse
  • 1 mckosker's wrasse
  • 2 lyretail Anthias
  • 4 Pajama Cardinals
  • 4 firefish
  • 5 zebra Dartfish
  • 1 melanurus wrasse
  • 2 black and white Ocellaris clownfish
  • 2 regular clownfish
  • 1 Lawnmover Blenny
  • 1 Royal Gramma

That's it I guess

I do regret buying Anthias, they are a pain in the dash. I mean they don't eat pellets. I have to shave the frozen shrimp everyday. I wish I knew that before buying these beautiful anthias. May be will sell them soon.

+1 on the Cyclopeeze. I have 5 lyretail and they get along well with all other other fish. After they started eating cyclopeeze they have been eating the 1mm pellets in a couple of weeks. I've had these fish for about 3 years now.

good to know they eat pellets

good to know they eat pellets

It is really good to know that they eat pellet. I will try to wean them off of the shrimp and try pellets

Mine really like the AP breed chroma .5mm pellets. It's like crack to them. Even my 6 line eats that stuff. It's awesome food.

where did you buy that from, never heard of it. do they sell this stuff in amazon.com?
let me know

IIRC Neptune had some the last time I was there. You can also get it directly from Reed:

http://apbreed.com/product_tdo_chroma_boost.php

And since you're local they can ground ship it to you and you'll get it the next day. Just follow up after you place the order and they can change the shipping type for you (the site currently isn't set up to do it automatically).
